Weekly Update #134

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

Well, I kinda disappeared off the face of the internet for the past week and a half and I'm not sorry; things have been nuts here in the UK and I've coped/escaped by binge playing Stardew Valley.
For those that don't know what Stardew Valley is, it is a computer game I'd best describe as what would arise from Farmville and the Sims having a baby.
In the background, I've had Modern Family playing - first time watching it - and I'm already on season four... Yeah, that says it all really.
I haven't been reading and I've been doing the minimal amount of interaction I can get away with when it comes to the outside world.
Covid numbers are soaring. Friends, and family members of friends, have been testing positive. The UK is back in a super strict lockdown, schools have closed
We're back working from home 100% and home-schooling and it's a lot.
I'm limiting myself to checking the news, socials and phone/text to once a day, and hiding on a fictional farm, and it's actually working wonders for my sanity... I didn't even hear about the craziness of what happened in the US with the storming of the Capitol Building until the next morning. It's oddly liberating.
This coming week, I'm going to attempt to get reading again and try and work some blog hopping back into the day (alongside Stardew Valley and Modern Family). I just didn't have it in me this week...

I hope you all have had a good/better start to your 2021!

  1. I loved Farmville back in the day. The social side of it was the worst, but I liked playing. Glad you found some escape in Stardew Valley. I am reading a Samantha Young book right now (Much Ado About You). I love it so far. Hope you enjoy your farm and all your new books. ((HUGS))

  2. Thank you for the joke at the end! I think we could all do with a laugh! Glad you are getting comfort from your virtual farm - I'm disappearing into my own fantasy world I'm writing, when I get the chance! Hope the home-schooling and working goes well and that those friends and family make a quick recovery, Nicci. Take care.x

  3. Years ago I played a computer game with a farm in it too, but I can´t remember the name. Was fun. I don´t envy you for the lockdown situation in the UK, to be honest. Here in Germany we will have new stricter rules too from Monday on. Gosh, I do hope that this nightmare will be over by fall 2021. Happy reading and stay safe and well.

  4. I understand the need to shut the news and live in a bubble Nicci! And we are in lockdown since November 1st with no end in sight ....sigh. Now that meme with walking by the cemetery made me laugh so hard! Stay safe!

  6. I'm so sorry you're back in lockdown. I've been hiding in video game world a lot this past year too... it's probably one of the only things that has kept me sane. But for me it's Animal Crossing. Though I have been seeing Stardew Valley around a lot and it's available on Switch soooo I might check it out. Lol. Glad to hear you're enjoying Modern Family! I used to really liked that show!

  7. I've heard of Stardew Valley. Friends tell me I would love it (I loved Farmville, Animal Crossing, etc). Sorry about the lockdown. That is tough. The new strain is scary for sure! I hope you have a better week!

  8. I'm sure I do way too much doom scrolling so I can see how a break would be good. I'm sorry about your lockdown but seriously we should be more restricted, it's only getting worse.

  9. I can totally understand just “checking out” for a bit for mental health and sanity. If we thought 2021 would somehow magically bring better things, we were all in for a rude awakening. I didn’t even do a Sunday Post today because (1) I just didn’t want to address what’s been happening this week and mostly because (2) I just can’t be bothered. I’ve been burying myself in books and playing lots of backgammon with the husband.

  10. I’ve restarted Stardew again this year, it reminds me of Harvest Moon which I played years ago. I love it and I’m busy trying to woo Sebastian!

Modern Family is brilliant, I miss it, I wish they’d make more. We’ve started watching Life in Pieces which is of a similar vein.

Hope you are safe and well.

  11. Great meme at the end! I just listened to a audiobook where the MC was living in a cemetery- (she wasn't even dead!) Hope the lockdown isn't too rough!

  12. First off, that final photo about the cemetery is fantastic.

But back to your actual post! I'm sorry things are so strict again and people you know are testing positive. Nothing wrong with limiting your news intake. I watched so much of it last week because of what happened in DC on Wednesday. It can get to be too much.

  13. Hugs! I understand the need to just kinda hide away in fictional worlds right now! I've done a bit myself- between reading and watching tv. I hope you're having a good week - whether it's in the fictional or real world :)

  14. We've had 100% at home learning since last year. Some of the rules my daughter is having to keep up with for my grandsons online school are driving her crazy. Half the time the applications don't work and no one will answer the phone when she calls. Then if he can't do his online work because the applications aren't working he gets marked as absent for that day because you get marked absent if all of the work for that day isn't done even if you do everything else. *end rant* lol

  15. Sorry to read things have been tough in the UK. Here in the Netherlands we are also still in a major lockdown. It has been going for 4 weeks and tonight we heard that things are still not looking good enough. So another 3 weeks in lockdown it is.
I hope you'll get to some reading this week ;)

  16. It has been getting a bit mental here hasn't it. There are talks of Tier Six coming at some point and you wonder how much further things can go. France has 6pm-6am curfews. That would go down well wouldn't it.
