Weekly Update #130

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

So... Maybe I was being optimistic when I said in my last Sunday Post that I'd soon be back in a weekly routine. It hasn't happened.
Blogging, reading and general motivation remains low.
I'm still struggling with the thyroid, and this week I manage to hurt myself wrestling a 7ft Christmas tree into place with the husband... Fun times! The doc thinks I slipped a disc in my lower back and it's pressing against my sciatic nerve so sitting, squatting, even lying down in certain positions hurts like heck. Oddly, standing and walking do not. Driving is currently out but hopefully it'll ease off enough that I'll be able to drive this coming week... It never rains folks, it pours!

On the plus side, we got the house decorated and the tree looks lovely!
We've got all our supplies in for the Christmas break - except fresh veg - and we're almost complete on the Christmas gifts front so that's a win! Earliest we've ever been organised too.
I've got two weeks left in the office - not that I'm actually in the office much - before logging off for a 2.5 week Christmas break and I'm so excited!
My mum won't be here this year, we won't be taking advantage of the insane rules the government brought in for Christmas(did you know Covid takes Christmas off?) and it definitely won't be a typical Christmas but you know what? I think it may be a nice one just the same...

Hope you're all well!
I'll be trying to visit you all this week but probably wont get through everyone's posts today.
Plus, I have some catching up to do in general. My feedly looks terrifying!

Grave War by Kalayna Price
I've had this beauty pre-ordered since it became available for pre-order and it feels like I waited forever... But it was wonderful and worth the wait!

The All Souls Complete Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
I own book one as a paperback (read it and loved it) but I never grabbed books two or three. When I saw all three books on a 99p kindle sale? No brainer but to grab them!

Sick Kids in Love by Hannah Moskowitz
I've been stalking this book since it released waiting for a price drop and it finally went on sale at under £1.99 so I clicked it!
(Yep, I can be cheap when it comes to new authors... But, generally, I can't stand paying £8+ for a kindle book when I can buy a physical copy for less!)

10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston
Another book I've been stalking since last Christmas and another sale! 99p this time.

The Paper Princess by Erin Watt
This used to pop up in my news feed a lot so when it popped up on my Amazon recommendations as a freebie I decided it was time to see what the fuss was about!
Interestingly, I discovered Erin Watt is a pseudonym for Elle Kennedy and Jen Fredrick and I've liked books from both of them in the past...

The Marriage Code by Brooke Burroughs
This was an early access grab via Amazon Prime. The book releases in January.
Sounds like a good one!

The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss (5 Stars)
Grave War by Kalayna Price (5 Stars)
Christmas Every Day by Beth Moran (4 Stars)

Have a great week all!

  1. You poor dear! Back woes are the worst. I (literally) feel your pain (herniated L5 with stenosis and chronic sciatica). I hope you heal quickly and can get some relief. Wasn't Twelve Dates wonderful! That book made me so happy. Glad to see you enjoyed it. I adored both Sick Kids and 10 Blind Dates, so I hope they are hits for you as well.

  2. Oh, sciatic nerve issues are the worst. Keeping you in my thoughts for a speedy recovery. 🀞. The Twelve Dates of Christmas caught my eye on Apple Books. It looks so good. Glad you enjoyed it. Have a speedy recovery kind of week! ❤️

  3. Ouch your poor back! That sounds painful. Make sure you get lots of rest.
I am almost organized for the holidays and then I plan to try and organize for next year....maybe. lol

We are having a not so typical christmas and I think I am ok with that. It almost feels like this christmas I am going a little slower instead of rushing around so much.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  4. Same her. Our government has eased the strict restrictions during the holidays as if the virus is not active. Get well soon. Backpain is the worst when you can´t sit or lay down. Happy reading and enjoy the holidays the best you can.

  5. I have had back pain but luckily not like I did 20 years ago. Since I do pushups as part of my strength training I don't seem to have that happen so much. I remember how much I hated it though. I hope you are better soon and can enjoy that awesome holiday break! Yea, we don't even pay attention to what the current restrictions are because we just stay home unless a couple times a month we go pick up stuff. Actually when they ease or a holiday is happening, we stay home more. Happy reading!

  6. Sciatic nerve, that must hurt a lot, I'm so sorry for you ! Covid will be taking a week off here too, it seems, so we'll be preparing for the 3rd wave. Christmas will be quiet, that will leave us more reading time ;) Take care !

  7. Sorry you hurt your bacl Nicci! And you made me laugh with Christmas erasing COVID LOL Here our government didn't soften the rules for Christmas and we had to choose between my mom an dmy mother in law....

  8. It's just going to be me, my daughter and grandson this year. I don't want anyone coming over right now. I hope your back feels better.

  10. Oh no, sorry to hear about your back. Hope it doesn't take long to heal. Nice to hear the Christmas decorating looks good, though. The Twelve Dates of Christmas looks cute. Hope you have a better week, Nicci!

  11. Oh back pain is the worst, and waiting for it to subside/ heal... I hope you feel better soon. Glad your decorating has gone well. We're almost done here too. Looking forward to Christmas, even though it's going to be so weird this year... it is hard though when we can't have family over. Our big family Christmas got canceled due to Covid.

Your books look fun, especially the Twelve Dates...

Have a good week and be well!

  12. Oh no! Take care of yourself and feel better.

Your books look really good. Hope you have a great week!

  14. Oh no! Slipped discs are NO fun! They are awful. I hope you feel better soon. Your rules around the holidays sound very similar to our curfew for bars! Apparently COVID only shows up after 11 PM. πŸ™ƒ

The Twelve Dates of Christmas has been on my radar. I’m glad to hear it was a 5 star read for you!

  15. I hope you recover from your injury quickly, my sciatica flares up occasionally and it’s so uncomfortable when it does.
The Grave series has been on my WTR list forever, it’s good to know it’s still going strong.

Wishing you a great reading week, stay safe!

  16. It hasn't happened for me either LOL! I just am not feeling it lately but I am reading like crazy and even posting reviews on Goodreads, just not blogging for whatever reason. I guess we all have our seasons for doing things though right?

  17. Oh gosh, I'm so sorry about your back. That has to be awful. I have no set schedule for blogging at the moment. LOL I really need to get things scheduled ahead so I don't worry about it as much.

  18. Ugh, back pain is the worst. I hope that clears up quickly, Nicci. The tree sounds lovely and how wonderful to be so on top of the shopping and gifts! And a nice long break to look forward to. I just placed a massice Amazon order that actually takes care of about 80% of my shopping. Score! :)

  19. I'm so sorry to hear that you hurt your back. Let's hope it heals quickly.

And I know you are disappointed you haven't gotten back into the routine of your Sunday post but soon you'll be back at it.

This year is crazy for all of us. We have to keep reminding ourselves we are doing the best we can.

Can't wait to read Twelve Dates of Christmas!

  20. Oh yikes! I hope you feel better soon! I hope your Christmas tree struggle goes in your favor. XD I've been wanting to read Paper Princess forever. I hope you enjoy all of your new reads!

  21. Thankfully school is closed and yes, I can sit around and listen to Christmas music. Not that I do! Still too many things I need to do here.

I do hope you are okay and that your back feels better real soon. Just sit back, feet up and admire your beautiful tree for a bit!

Have a good week and take care.

  22. Oh no! I'm so sorry about your back - that's the worst. At least you can walk, but damn, I don't see anyway to relax in those list of uncomfortable positions :( I hope it's feeling better as the week progresses.

"Did you know COVID takes Christmas off?" LMAO! I had to read it twice because I missed the sarcasm the first time. Seriously! People act like that's how it is though, don't they?! My husband keeps saying how messed up it is that we're not with family for the holidays and I GET IT, but seriously, why are we being so careful, only to ruin it for a holiday? I feel like the end is actually in sight (distant sight, but sight) and let's just persevere to the end!

Oh man, Grave Witch is a series I adore and need to reread/catch up on. I was current before the author took a while to get the books out and then when she started regularly publishing again I wasn't ready for them! Glad you enjoyed it.

Have a great week! You're that much closer to your break!

  23. I used to get a pinched sciatic nerve a couple of times a year in my 30s and 40s, but I don't think I've had it since I turned 50. It's a weird thing. πŸ˜• Sorry you are going through it. 😞

I love the cover for The Marriage Code. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘✨

It must feel great to have all your decorating done. πŸŽ„

I hope you are having a great week. 🌞

  24. Reading and blogging are just the worst for me right now.

I'm sorry about your back. I did that years ago and it's awful. I still have flare ups but I'm mostly able to keep it under control now.

  25. Oh, Nicci, I hope the back pain has subsided some or is completely gone (that would be preferred!). I know back pain all too well and it's miserable. I am glad the decorations and tree are up at least.

I got a surprising spurt of productivity there a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure how or why . . . My husband thinks it was because I was thinking ahead to my mom's visit for Christmas. Which isn't happening now. She took it hard when I told her. She seemed okay with the decision at first, but kept trying to come up with ways to make it work. It's hard to say no to her, it really is. But travel and social gatherings are prohibited right now in the state, and while everyone else around me may not care or comply, I'm going to. The hospitals are hurting right now and the less strain we can put on them the better. Best not to take chances right now. She lives over 430 miles away, so it's quite a drive for her when she does come.

I am looking forward to a a low-key quiet Christmas, just the three of us. No expectations. No pressure. No rush. I'll miss my mom (not so much the in-laws), but we'll still make it a nice holiday.

I hope you enjoy your reading! Hang in there and feel better! Have a good weekend.

  26. I reckon the UK government know everyone is going to ignore all the rules anyway and already have a January lockdown planned to look forward to. Mrs Fishface on the other hand, seems determined to lock us up for the rest of our lives where I am!!! It's been months since anywhere was open!
