October Wrap Up & The Sunday Post! (#128)
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!
Halò, a h-uile duine!
How are you all doing? It's been ages again... Sorry. Life has thoroughly kicked my ass, anxiety has been high, motivation low and yeah... We'll get there, right?
Let's see, it was around this time in October I last posted an update.
October was an interesting month in that it was all boring and routine until half-term break where we got to go out and do some fun stuff, and just in time too as, on Halloween, the UK's Prime Minister put England back into lockdown. It's not quite as strict as the first lockdown but all non-essential businesses are closed again, households aren't really allowed to mingle (some exceptions), and we're back to WFH if we can.
I'm now only in office one day a week for the "essential" bits I can't do from home and WFH the rest of the time, same with the professor. Unlike last time, the schools are still open so the little dude is happy. It's super frustrating as my neck of the woods is massively lower than other parts but we're all in it together or some such... yay?
So, for (the pre-lockdown) half-term fun, we went to the Harry Potter Studio Tour and it was wonderful! They've completely overhauled it since we last visited about 7/8 years ago so it was well worth a second visit with the little dude.
We went on a spooky scavenger hunt at Old Sarum Castle, we took advantage of a bowling promotion to get another game in, and we spent the day at Winchester Science Centre which has only just reopened for the first time since March! They'd completely overhauled their exhibits and it was a great day.
I loved having the week off... It was my first full week off since last Christmas. I'd taken lots of days off throughout the summer so that each week was only a three-day working week (and I love doing that) but there'd been no complete breaks in almost a year! No wonder I was feeling so frazzled.
I also managed to get my hair cut! That feels like a massive coup... Especially when it was just before they announced a return to lockdown! I got it cut short (like just above my shoulders) so I should be good for a good long while...
In bad news, my mum tested positive for covid!
We found out on Halloween. She's over a certain age and has four significant underlying health conditions so that was scary... Luckily, she seems to be out the other side of it with no complications.
Also, some idiot drove into the back of our car at a roundabout on Halloween... So, basically, Halloween was a load of balls this year.
October also felt like the month everything went wrong with our house.
Towel rails falling off walls, holes/ cracks appearing in plaster, cat damaging the carpets, stuff breaking. Argh!
Nothing is unfixable (except the cat damage to the carpets) but it's frustrating and annoying.
It's the cat who is sick doing the damage to my carpets and I just wish I knew why she's doing the things she's doing... But aside from a load of vet bills, we've still got nothing. 😖
Finally, it was my birthday this week!
Another year older... I don't know why but this birthday (number 35) has hit me particularly hard, lol.
It's ridiculous but it is true. I think it's the state of the world that's getting to me and my birthday has compounded it but who knows. Shame I'm in lockdown and can't do anything nuts to kick-start an early mid-life crisis...
Oh! And I've started using Feedly to keep up with people's blog posts and it's awesome!!
Bloglovin' was useless for seeing what was going on with you all and was needlessly difficult to comment on your blogs directly (rather than the Bloglovin' platform).
I wasn't visiting as much as I'd like and I was getting frustrated.
I'm confident that Feedly will fix it!
I can catch up easy! I have lists! It shows me new posts! I can check off what I've read...
It is now officially my king.
I'm still slowly working through adding people to it - today/tomorrow I'm creating my "Sunday Posters" list - but it's taking shape and it rules.
Watch this space for the return of some blogging normalcy!
So many books... Don't judge me. I have an addiction. I cannot resist sales or freebies.
The ARC additions were bursts of exciting madness.
I think the last time I posted, I was on a reading roll and thinking the slump had ended.
I cursed myself. It's been four weeks and I've read 8 books.
Four of them are kids books so hardly an achievement... One was a novella!
Oh well. Reading is reading, lol.
Heather talks about Haunted Scotland. (I LOVED this post!)
Half-term, Halloween, fun we got through:
Hocus Pocus, The Adams Family, The Adams Family Values, Halloweentown, Halloweentown 2, Halloweentown High.
With the start of November, it means Festive Movies!!!
So far, I've had Edward Scissorhands and Holidate.
No TV shows really...
Although, the professor watched the final season of Man In The High Castle so I ended up watching a lot of that with him.
October's reading total came in at 13.
Most of them were at the start of the month but it's nice to know I may not be in as big a slump as I feared...
My favourite book was Delivering Evil For Experts by Annette Marie.
My least favourite book was Pablo Can't Sleep or Thrill of The Chase.
Have a great week all!
