Kiddie's Corner: A Real Friend, Monty's Special Day, Night Night Norman and Pablo Can't Sleep

A Real Friend by Jennifer Wolfthal

Benny and Max are best friends. They often play together, until Max annoys Benny and the two friends get into a fight. Then, Benny decides to build a new best friend…

My Thoughts:
I liked this! It teaches kids that they can be best friends and still get on each other's nerves sometimes. It shows that always doing the same thing gets boring. It's about having a quarrel and then making up and friendship. Good for school-aged children, I'd say 4-7yo.

Monty's Special Day by Ellen Delange

Monty is a typical donkey living a typical donkey life. Until the one day, he walks through the open gate and goes on an adventure . . .

My Thoughts:
This was absolutely delightful! A warm, happy read about a Donkey that goes on an adventure and tries new things before going home to his friends and telling them all about it.
The language is simple enough for early readers (4/5 yo) to read with a parent (and slightly older children to read by themselves) and the illustrations are lovely and detailed which is sure to catch the eye and hold the attention of children of all ages.

Night Night, Norman by Marie Dimitrova

A Light-hearted, Spirit-lifting Story about What Horses Do at Night While We Sleep.

In this charming and funny book, Norman the horse wonders where Ellie goes after she hugs him goodnight. One night he loosens the latch on his stall and sneaks out. When he pushes his horse-sized body through the door and into Ellie’s house, he smells something delicious coming from the kitchen. While Ellie sleeps, Norman investigates. His equine curiosity and clumsy hooves create all sorts of chaos, leaving us wondering, will he wake Ellie?

Laugh out loud with the adventures of Norman, and find out what happens when we think our pets are sleeping. A perfect book to read together before bedtime!

My Thoughts:
The illustrations in this book are so pretty and incredibly sweet! I loved the relationship between Norman and Ellie. The story is perfect for early readers and if you've got a kid that loves horses, I fail to see how they wouldn't enjoy this funny tale of Norman the horse discovering where Ellie goes after she says goodnight!

Pablo Can't Sleep by AurΓ©lia Higuet

Pablo is tired. But he can’t sleep because his friends are too busy or make too much noise. Angrily, Pablo walks off. In the desert, everything is quiet at last. But falling asleep is now completely impossible, since Pablo feels alone and misses his friends …

My Thoughts:
This book is recommended for kids ages 4+ but it would have been way too simple a story to read to my kid when he was four... I'd recommend it for younger kids or kids with very short attention spans. The vocabulary is incredibly simple, the text is sparse and the story is super basic. The pictures are pretty cool, but again basic, and it's a super quick read - even by kiddie's book standards - which means compared to others on the market I'm just not sure I'd recommend it...

  1. Thanks for sharing your reviews. Real Friends sounds like it would be my favorite! I have Night Night Norman, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘✨
