Weekly Update #124

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

The week was a quiet one as the little dude was, once again, at his grandad's and we were working.
So, over two evenings, the professor and I binge-watched season two of The Umbrella Academy and liked it, quite possibly, more than the first season!

The little dude was supposed to be home Thursday night but he wanted to spend another night at grandad's and come home Friday which we agreed to. As I'd Mondays and Fridays booked off work for the summer I figured I'd cancel the Friday... But I didn't! *cackles maniacally*
I kept it and had a day off all by myself!
I watched a movie (Kissing Booth 2), I binged an entire ARC (Sting of Thorns by Kristen Brand) and finally caught up on blog stuff while my "favourites" playlist blared in the background.
It was wonderful. I highly recommend it. Think I'm going to do it more often. 😂

Another plus of my sneaky me day was that I got to avoid going out in the heat! Well, for one of the super hot days anyway!
Up to 36C/97F may not be as high as some of you live with but it's stupid stupid heat for the UK and we don't have the air conditioning in our homes to deal with it... They really should change that for new builds in the south, lol.

The one plus of the heat was that the sky was super clear at night so we were able to sit in the garden last night and watch the Perseid meteor shower... It's just beginning so it was super sporadic but we got to see some. I'm hoping we get another clear night during the week when it's set to peak. 😊

Finally, we had good news this weekend as the professor's sister got into her top choice university!
She starts this autumn and it's good to have something finally go right when things have been so tough for the family this year.
(PS, yep, there's a massive age gap between the professor and his siblings.)

Nothing! For the first week in forever!!!

Although, I did get an ARC of Sting of Thorns by Kristen Brand
The cover hasn't been revealed yet (I'm doing that on Monday) so no pretties to share here this week...

Only two this week! I had plans but didn't read anything I'd planned... Oh well.

Sting of Thorns by Kristen Brand and Dayhunter by Jocelyn Drake.

Sophie and co discuss why they read romance and why you should too!

We binge-watched the second season of The Umbrella Academy (as I mentioned above) and we loved it! I don't think there is any point in watching if you haven't seen the first season but if you have don't miss it as I think it was better!

I also watched The Kissing Booth 2 and liked it better than the first one.

  1. I started watching the second season of Umbrella Academy yesterday and I'm already loving it. Everyone needs a day for themselves. :) I feel your pain - homes is Portugal don't have A/C to deal with high temperatures.

Congrats to the professor's sister! =D

    Happy readings!

    1. I'm surprised that Portugal doesn't have AC!

  2. That is hot for Europe. Hot is a relative thing and out of the ordinary temps (high or low) are tough. I live in the northeast where our weather is all over the place. I hate it, but I don't sit around calling it unusual. I roll my eyes every summer when my dad calls it hotter than normal (it never is) or the winter colder than normal (also never a true statement). It's nice you had a vacation day to yourself and congratulations to your sister in law!

    1. Global warming in action, I think. Hotter summers, hotter winters (rarely snows nowadays) it sucks really.

  3. Oh I need to catch up on The Umbrella Academy, I loved the first season and I am now sure I am going to like the next one too.

And a few sneaky me days are so worth it and do it more often pl!

  4. Good for you for taking the day off! I was just discussing the same with my husband. I mentioned feeling the need for a day off but that it felt "wasteful" when I can't really go anywhere or do anything. He disagreed and urged me to take a day off soon. Seeing how much you enjoyed it makes me think twice! :) No AC in your homes? Ack! That sounds miserable when it's so very hot. I think I would turn into a Victorian woman and fling myself across chaises and have fainting spells. LOL

    1. Do it! It's amazing for re-charging the batteries.

One super hot days, I DO act like that! lol. If I could bribe people to stand and fan me while doing so, I would.

  7. We actually had a slightly cooler week (80's F) but that ends today. Back to 90's. Sigh. It was nice while it lasted.

    1. 80's is usually what our summer is. Going up to the low 90's is pretty normal too but hitting mid-high 90's (for a protracted period) isn't typical for us... Although, it's becoming more and more frequent. :(

  8. Yay for keeping your day off and having a "me day". We all need that sometimes. Ugh, sorry about the heat. I don't know how I'd handle that without AC. Blegh. Congrats to the professor's sister though! That's awesome news.

  10. That’s hot, we never get that hot up here in Scotland, we complain when it gets mid twenties!

Sounds like you had some well deserved me time! Have a lovely week.

    1. My mum was complaining it was 23C the other day where she lives (near Edinburgh) and I was like, "Mam, calm it, that's NOT hot, lol." People think I'm joking when I say I almost died adapting to temperatures down here when I first moved but I'm really not... I just didn't know how to deal with it and wasn't used to drinking enough to stay hydrated in it. It really does get 10C higher than back home on the regular and it's nuts!

  11. I'm so happy you got a day off for you! I think that's really important. It's not here but more like 32C - 90F but it's also raining and more humid. It's easier with less humidity. We only have 4-6 weeks of heat like this and not all of it is so humid. We are a little over halfway through it.

I hope your week is lovely and cooler!

    1. The lowest it's been during the day for about a week now is 30C and it's horrid... Night times are the worst as they've been breezeless and in the 20's! Knowing my luck, the weather will flip to torrential rain as soon as my mini break arrives, lol

  12. We liked Umbrella Academy too! Lots of possibilities for next season.

My friend and I have been debating Kissing Booth 2 for our virtual movie date.

  13. Days off for oneself are the best sometimes! And yay for The Umbrella academy being good. I've been hearing a lot about that show and I want to try it. Congrats to your family member getting into her school too, that's awesome!

Hope your week ahead is a good one. :)

  14. I am glad to hear you enjoyed The Umbrella Society's second season. I am looking forward to watching it. I wasn't sure about the first few episodes of the first season, but I came to enjoy it quite a bit in the end. I am glad you were able to have some time to yourself! I miss having time like just to myself. Oh, for this pandemic to be over . . . Yay for the professor's sister! That is great news indeed! It sounds like you had a very nice week overall. :-)

I hope you enjoyed Drake's book. I've read the first book in the series and enjoyed it. That was years ago though.

I hope you have a great week!

    1. I find them very... I dunno. Stiff? Bland? I can't quite put my finger on it but Drake isnt going to end up on a favourites list for me. I will finish the series though as I'm curious about how it all plays out.

  15. Not having A/C in the heat is the worst, I could never do that for very long. But listening to your favorites while blogging is always a plus. I do that as much as I can. :)

Hope you have a great week and happy reading.

  19. A bonus day off all to yourself sounds divine. I need one of those 😍. I would sleep at least half of it 😂

  20. I've been indoors through the heatwave though it didn't go quite as high up here thankfully. Sleep has been in short supply though with these horrible warm nights! I'm glad you enjoyed your myself day!
