Weekly Update #116

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

Hello everyone!
I'm enjoying my blog break. I'm not getting as many posts written and scheduled as I liked (I think I have 3, lol) nor have I managed to catch up on all your posts lately but limiting the internet has been good for my brain. Next step is to limit time on my phone! Honestly, my social media (namely Twitter) has turned into a dumpster fire so I think avoiding may be the best thing for a while...

Despite being inactive/unproductive online, I've been productive in my house which currently looks like a hurricane hit it but it's ok! It'll all come together, lol.

When we first moved in (almost two years ago) we decided to install a breakfast bar in our kitchen as it doesn't have huge amounts of space.
It was a good idea except it was never really used for eating and became a dumping ground for stuff.
Long story short, it drove us nuts and meant we didn't have anywhere to sit properly and eat our meals as we'd gotten rid of our dining table when we installed the breakfast bar.
(For special occasions we pulled a foldaway table out of storage.)
We'd been debating some solutions for a while and decided we needed to make changes to the kitchen so we've pulled out the breakfast bar, pinched some space from the utility area and bought a new kitchen table.
So, we've been repairing walls, painting, removing doors to open up space etc... It also means replacing things like our kitchen bin! We managed to find a nifty bin that has two stacked compartments - one for general waste and the other for recycling which means we only need one item rather than the current set up of one bin for general waste and two separate recycling containers.
(The things that make you happy and excited as an adult! 😆)

Kitchen aside, I've also been sorting through clothes for charity or recylcing, decluttering the shed, organising cupboards and generally losing my mind with the need to sort things
I think lockdown broke me.

Oh! And we also have our patio slabs on order. They'll take three weeks to arrive but when they get here we can finally get our patio down, buy our garden furniture and have our outside space finished!

I'm not going to lie, I grabbed Opium and Absinthe because I loved the cover. The blurb sounds good too but I seriously love the cover, lol. I got it free (and two weeks early!) because Amazon Prime apparently does that? Gives one title from a pre-set list, a little bit early, to Prime subscribers... I had no clue! But, win!

Queen of The Conquered cropped up in my Amazon recommendations and sounds awesome! It was 99p so I grabbed it.

Nothing but some kids books.

I'm reading Daisy Jones and The Six and House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City) but I'm reading slow right now...

Movie night this week was Artemis Fowl on Disney+.
Having never read the books, I thought it was meh/okay. The kid, having read all the books, was outraged and complaining from about 10minutes in... Needless to say, it wasn't a hit in this house, lol.

One pre-break commitment!

Have a great week all!

  1. Glad you enjoyed the break, Nicci. I never get as much accomplished as I intend to. But that never stops me from having grand plans. :) The kitchen remodel sounds like quite a project, but it has to feel great to makes some changes and have the space work better for you. I hope you're enjoying Daisy Jones!

  2. Sounds like you are being really productive during your blog break. It's nice, after all the hard work is done, and you can just sit back, and enjoy your work.

  3. Social media right now is a dumpster fire. On Twitter I block or mute a lot of people. A lot. lol That cuts the fires to a minimum.

  4. Oh man, it sounds like you're having quite an adventure! Lol. We Marie Kondo-ed the kids's room like two weeks ago, and even though it wasn't even my stuff, it was super satisfying. Lol. So yay for being productive! Lol.

  5. Oh no I was looking forward to Artemis Fowl as I loved the books! Why do they have to ruin so many adaptations from great books? I feel your pain over the kitchen renovations. We've been trying to sort out our house and have a lot still to do but now we have the disaster zone that is my uncle's house and we need to concentate on that so we can get is sold asap.

  6. Don't get me started on the Artemis Fowl movie... we watched it this weekend, too. However, it was me screaming at the computer and not the kids, haha! I hate how much they changed, and for seemingly no reason whatsoever.

I've also been limiting my social media, because my brain just CANNOT right now. I do make myself check the news before bed, but I try to stay away from it throughout the day. I need to focus on my kids and myself, which I can't do when I'm worrying about everything else going on in the world. People suck.

Good luck with your house! I've FINALLY gotten ours organized. <3

  10. I absolutely love the covers of the two you recently bought. Kang's covers are always stunning, I think.

  12. If I used internet and Twitter a lot less, I would be so much more productive. *hides in shame* If it makes you feel better, lockdown has also made declutter my home. And now I can't stop!!!

    Happy readings!

  13. Yay for home improvements. It feels good when they're done, right? We've just finished painting my bookcases white (used to be medium wood stain) and I really like the fresh look. We start on our kitchen cabinets next. That'll be a big undertaking.

I do love that cover, too! That's the first thing that popped into my head: wow, that cover is gorgeous!
