Weekly Update #110

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

This week, I've played a lot of Minecraft with the kiddo, baked (what's new?) and had a video call "pub quiz" with friends. There's also been work but that's about it!
I've neglected the blog (my posts last week were all pre-scheduled) and I haven't been online for much of anything including blog visits. I've done a little reading but not as much as I'd expect seeing as I haven't watched a lot of TV, movies or anything else really... It's been a strange week.
If we hadn't been in lockdown, this would have been the weekend of my villages annual May Day fair (a huge affair and massive fundraiser for the schools, community clubs, charities and customer boost for businesses) and also the weekend of a new Marvel movie (Black Widow). We'd have been at the Fair on Saturday then went for a meal and to see the Marvel release as we've done for years now... But everything is delayed/cancelled. It sucks.

This coming week, we get to find out if lockdown is further extended and/or what the plan is for lifting the restrictions and starting to ease people back out into some kind of normal... And I honestly don't know how I feel about it all. The powerlessness that has come from this situation has been startling and is taking a lot of getting used to. I want "normal" back but I also really REALLY do not want a massive second wave and future lockdowns... What times we're living in, eh?

Where The Lost Wander I bought (for only 99p! 🀯) after reading Tanya & Sophie's reviews!
Stardust was another 99p steal and the Spring Romance collection was free!
The Spring Romance Collection has 9 full length novels: Mouth to Mouth by Tessa Bailey, Gypsy King by Devney Perry, Hitching the Cowboy by Kennedy Fox, Our Options Have Changed by Julia Kent and Elisa Reed, The Initiation by Nikki Sloane, Sucked Into Love by Rochelle Paige, The Pawn by Skye Warren, Wait For Me by J.H. Croix and Royal Hottie by Kylie Gilmore.

My Read a Series In A Month series!
Well, it's the first three books... I found out that the series is actually 6 books long as it continues with a different lead for book 4-6 so I'll nab the other half when I finish these three!

Loaned by Lindsi

I got book post!!! Lindsi sent me her ARC of American Demon to read!
I'm a fiend for this series and was dying to read Harrison's return to the Hollows but couldn't get a digital ARC.
I'm hoping to get to it this week... It's freaking huge!

(I was trying to take a picture of the book propped up against the back of the sofa but it created a "tunnel" that Vess just had to squeeze through, knocking everything askew, thus the photo above. 😏 She's cute though.)

I don't know! Haven't written anything! That's a task for today, I guess!

Have a great week all!

  1. I know what you mean - it's a real balancing act. And far too many folks around here suddenly seem to be acting as if it's all over... I like the look of the Hailey Edwards series, Nicci - it's a real recommendation that you are keen to read the rest of it as soon as you've finished. I hope the coming week is a kind one, Nicci.

  2. Your cat is so cute. I love that she photobombed that pic. Maybe you didn't read or blog, but it sounds like you did some other great things. How fun that you had a virtual get together, and video games is how I am bonding with my kid during quarantine. I have no idea what is going on in NJ as far as the shelter in place order, but they opened golf courses and state parks yesterday. They are running them at 50% capacity, and I heard they filled up within an hour or so. I am thinking about going to Target for a new pillow and some food items, if it doesn't rain. It will be the first time I have been outside in like 10 days or so. I am a hermit.

  3. Cats are so funny! I'm mixed on the stay at home orders lifting, too. I'm nervous about a bad second wave. I do hope they open the state parks, though. I think social distancing is easy with that and you're in the open air. I need my hikes and walks in nature! Although, I sprained my ankle last Thursday so that's going to have to wait until it's not as painful.

That's an awesome bundle of books for free! I want to read the Devney Perry one.

  4. Love the 'eh' at the end and the cartoons. I've been trying to adopt little characters when I talk to my consumers during LYFT it helps me act my authentic self if that makes sense.

  5. I'd rather not have a massive second wave of lockdowns either but I think this is going to be a seasonal thing that comes back year after year like the flu. Not that it seems to be slowing down right now though.

I've done some blogging but I haven't read a lot. I'm just trying to keep myself busy but it's hard to concentrate at times.

  6. I'm with you. As much as I want normal back, I don't want to put us more at risk by going back to that too soon. Our county Board of Supervisors have decided sooner is better than later going against our cautious director of Public Health. I trust the medical professional more than I do the politician, frankly. At least the Governor's orders supersede the county Board's, and so far he's been level headed. I hate all this uncertainty--and that feeling of helplessness. I'm trying to stay focused on what I can control and let the other stuff go. It's not easy though.

Anyway, I was really looking forward to seeing Black Widow. I hope when it does come out it does the character justice.

I hope you enjoy your reading! You've got some great books there. I really enjoyed Stardust when I read it.

Vess is so beautiful! And I love that comic you shared. Sometimes I wonder what my cats are staring at too--or why they stare at me for so long. LOL

    Have a good week, Nicci.

  7. i was just talking about Minecraft with my kids. I had taken off my old computer and when I got my new one never put it back on. I might add it back, I love that game.
I have been very laid back the last few weeks, I just figure I will have time to get all crazy once everything opens again but for now, I plan to take my time and relax.

Your cat is so cute! Those big beautiful eyes!

Have a great week, Nicci! Stay Safe and Happy Reading! xx

  8. I am so happy I pushed you to buy Where the Lost wander! Now come back to my blog when you'll have read it as I am so curious about your thoughts! Belgium is progressively easing up the restrictions beginning next week and I too fear a second wave! Fingers crossed!

  9. Every week is strange, sometimes even when there isn't a pandemic. There are states opening up here or starting but we are staying home. I think it's too soon with cases increasing still. Yay for Hailey Edwards books and also American Demon. Enjoy!

Take care, be kind and sensible!

  10. I think everyone has reached the point in this quarantine where we are just getting depressed. Its been 6 weeks for me, and while, in the beginning I was doing well, lately, its starting to wear on me. Its not like I would be going all these places and stuff. I just would like the option, I guess. Ugh, its all just wearing me down.

  11. Sorry about the cancellations. My state reopened a few days ago, but I’m not ready to go out yet because there are still a lot of sick people. I don’t want to spread the virus. Have a good week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  12. I am nervous about the idea of everyone opening things up and acting as if it is all over...I don't think it will be for a while.

    Stay safe and well.

  13. Was this the original Black widow premiere weekend? Oh that DOES suck! I'm looking forward to that movie. Your May Day festival sounds amazing too. It really sucks how everything has to be canceled... I feel the same way though about the lockdown. I'm worried about a resurgence as well.

Kitty's Mixtape looks fun. I love that series!

  14. Yes! American Demon was massive. The guy at the post office reiterated several times that I couldn't use media mail to ship it to you, and I was like, "Dude, I know." I hope you enjoy it! I can't wait to see your thoughts. :) Vess is adorable and definitely adds cuteness to the photo, haha.

I know the kiddos are tired of being stuck indoors and around the house. VA is still closed down (until June, I think), but the rest of our family lives in Texas. I know my dad has been golfing, even more they lifted the restrictions. We've had many heated conversations about their lack of concern for their health and others.

  15. I have the same conflicting feels about wanting lockdown to finish. And I think slowly and carefully is the only way. Where The Lost Wander looks great, and I love her books, so I want to read that one soon too.

  16. Aw, I love that your cat joined your book photo. So cute! It's definitely going to be a weird month, remembering all the things that normally happen in May and how it's pretty much all been cancelled. Sigh.

  17. I know what you mean. So many people here seem to be chomping at the bit for things to reopen and life to get back to normal. But I am *very* hesitant about that happening. I envision crowds of people descending on restaurants and stores and then an immediate spike in infections. It's worrisome.

I'm so excited that you bought Where the Lost Wander! :)

  18. Yeah, I'm so conflicted about easing the lockdown. Obviously, I would like to be able to do more but safely and not with crazy ass people just storming things like they're doing here.

  19. Oh I'm jealous! American Demon! I wonder if I'd even have time to read it if I had it though. What times we're living in indeed.

Texas has started opening up and as much as I want my normal life back, I don't want a second wave and I think that's what's going to happen. It's too early and restrictions have not been enforced well enough. I hope I'm wrong of course!

Have a great week and stay safe!

  20. Oh Vess is such a cutie! And that cartoon had me laughing. I hate being up by myself and the cat suddenly starts staring at the wall or the door like that. I know it's a bug but at the same time what if it's not! Hope you have a great week!

  21. I feel ya. We're still under a stay at home order, but my work is already typing up and sending out opening procedures. I don't think my position goes in until phase 2, but I know the moment they can throw us into the fire they are going to. :\

  22. "I want "normal" back but I also really REALLY do not want a massive second wave and future lockdowns." Same here. To be honest, I'm actually scared of all these easing of restrictions when cases are still going up (and my area just got started with an increase in cases too); it's like a recipe for disaster I feel like.

  23. I seem to have found too much to do off the blog so it means I'm constantly playing catchup! I'm obsessed with doing these Diagon Alley puzzles at the moment and neglecting book reviews and blog posts!
