Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!
I went to a supermarket for the first time in weeks! And it was fine. 😱
There was a small queue to get in so I got to stand and enjoy the sunshine, there were materials to disinfect the shopping trolley, the shelves were full and had everything I needed and checkout was far less stressful than it was before the plague.
It's strange to admit but it actually soothed a part of me that had been tweaking since this all began. Being able to go to the store, buy everything I needed while seeing full shelves, it was calming and reassuring as was the feeling when I got home of putting it away and seeing the cupboards and fridge stocked again. It felt... normal.
This week's cooking experiments were making scones using bread flour (it worked just fine, just add extra raising agent), French Toast and Clotted Cream Fudge. All yummy!
Truly, I'm not going to fit into any of my "work clothes" when it's time to start going outside again but whatever keeps us sane, right?
And I did feel sane this week so it's a win!

How To Kiss an Undead Bride and How to Survive An Undead Honeymoon are epilogue short-novels (~ 200 pages) in the Beginners Guide To Necromancy series and after binging the series last week, I just had to read the epilogues this week and they were lovely. I wish more authors did this when saying goodbye to a series but seeing how Honeymoon ended I have my fingers tightly crossed for one more!

We finished watching the documentary series on Tutankhamun, watched some weird documentary on finding Atlantis, some of the Big Hero 6 tv show and some more S3 Young Sheldon.

I have yet to enter the market in under 30 mins. No matter what day, what time, there is always a line. If I don't have to pick up meds for my parents, I might go to a different market, because my sister said there was no line at another market near me. Glad you were able to get everything you wanted/needed, and home baked scones - yum!

ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear your grocery shopping experience this week went well. Here grocery shopping is mostly a bit difficult due to the social distancing and how not everyone take sit seriously, so it takes a lot of energy out of me to go grocery shopping, but we have full shelves here again as well and it's nice to see how the grocery stores are handling all this. Here checkout also goes well and the cart are disinfected and sometimes you have to wait in line to get in.
ReplyDeleteThose scones sound yummy. And that's good your attempt at using bread flour went well. We don't have anything called bread flour here. I always use flour without rising agents, we have what we call self rising flour and just normal flour.

I'm glad your shopping experience was pretty calm. I've been hearing horror stories for the stores out here. On Friday I had to rush out to the only petstore out here to get my dog a cone collar (long story). Due to the pandemic they changed their hours and close at 6pm now. So I rushed down there, the whole time thinking there was going to be a line out the door of people trying to get in, and I wouldn't make it inside before they closed. Thankfully, the place was dead and I was able to get in with 20 minutes to spare and get what I needed and go back home. I think it will take me a very long time to not be so worked up about going shopping. This pandemic has been crazy but people's responses to it have really blown it into uncharted territory.
ReplyDeleteOur daughter has been doing the shopping for us since she moved back in with us last month. She said the market next door is fully stocked and there hasn't been a lot of people in there when she goes in.

ReplyDeleteI've been a bit worried when I go out. My daughter had a doc appt this week. We've been fortunate to have access to deliveries and have gotten most of what we wanted. I need to cut back on reading some of the news; it just feeds the worry.

I'm so glad that your supermarket trip went well. It sounds like it was set up really well to keep everyone safe, and it's great when you can actually find what you need!! I definitely feel like I'm going to be gaining weight during this quarantine, but I am trying to do as well as I can when it comes to exercise and eating well. Sometimes you just have to eat yummy treats to keep yourself going!

Yes - Himself says that the local supermarkets are all very efficient, with the disinfection for the trolleys and the one-way system and the shelves have been mostly full. Although flour is something we can't get hold of at present... so we are forced to buy shop-bought Jamica ginger cake... it's a terrible privation, but we do our best to cope. I hope you have a peaceful week and stay safe, Nicci:)

ReplyDeleteYay for feeling sane! I went grocery shopping the other day, and it was still SUPER stressful. I had to wait outside in the rain, and then they were out of disinfectant for the carts (no hand sanitizer or wipes), and the shelves were still mostly empty. We still can't find toilet paper (I got lucky and found a package several weeks ago, but we've almost used all of it), and soap and sanitizer are non-existent. I haven't been able to find Lysol AT ALL. It's ridiculous. People are still hoarding. Someone was trying to sell an 8oz bottle of Germ-X for $40 dollars on eBay!
ReplyDeleteThis last week of school with our son was stressful, since they introduced a live aspect, and we have to virtually interact with his teacher and the other students. It was interesting with the girls running all over the place. I was so happy when I woke up and it was Saturday!

ReplyDeleteI keep laughing at how many meetings could have been emails ;) Hopefully there are less useless meetings when this is all over! I went to the market twice after work last week (now I'm done working for a few more weeks, hopefully). Our shelves are still kinda picked over.

ReplyDeleteThat's great! I think those little bits of normalcy are so comforting right now. I haven't left the house since April 3 and we've been getting our groceries delivered. We'll need more this weekend and part of me would really like to just go, but I know my husband will feel safer if we just get them delivered.

The household task I hate the most is a supermarket trip! I'm actually glad that I don't have to do it now. We've been able to get Asda delivery slots with less trouble than I thought so we'll stick to that for the time being! It's less tiring and stressful getting it to my door!
