Weekly Update #107

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

Happy Easter Sunday, folks!
We're not religious so it doesn't hold much significance for us beyond a nice meal and chocolate eggs but still... This gal was raised catholic and Good Friday through to Easter Monday hold a lot of nostalgic memories from when I was a kid so I've been enjoying chatting to the little dude about them.

Ordinarily, we'd spend this weekend out and about with picnics at castles and other fun activities but this year we spent it in the garden enjoying the sunshine, playing computer games when the weather wasn't as nice and watching lots of movies in the evenings - Disney Plus has been earning its keep!

I'm still not reading much but I've decided not to worry about it. It is what it is.
My family and friends are so far safe from the virus, we have food, shelter and plenty of things to keep us occupied so I'm trying to be more positive instead of worrying all the time.
There are things that we can't control right now but there are plenty of things we can control so I'm going to focus on what I can do and what will be will be.
This mindset is easier said than done sometimes but it's been working for me this week!

Hope you're all doing ok!

One purchase this week! It's slowing down! Phew.

Nothing. I've read nothing.
I've started reading five different books though... Fun times.

Toy Story 4
Inside Out
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Wreck It Ralph

I also caught up on Young Sheldon S3, watched another couple of episodes of The Witcher and watched some random documentary on Tutankhamun.

This had me giggling so thought I'd share!

  1. Don't feel bad I think all of our reading has taken a hit lately. There's a lot going on. I know I've been bouncing from book to book trying to figure out what I want to read, it's difficult. Glad Disney Plus is earning its keep for you. I think all streaming services I'm getting my money's worth out of them at the moment, I'm suddenly so glad I didn't cancel any of them. I need this entertainment.

  2. I find, that the more time I have, the less I do. I have no idea why I am like this. When they originally gave me leave, they said it would be for 2 weeks, so I just chilled. If I had known it would last this long, I would have signed up for an online class or something more productive. I just didn't want to take on anything I couldn't finish, you know? Glad you are enjoying your family time and the sunshine.

  5. So glad to know you and your family are safe. Happy Easter! My daughter had to go to her dad's house for the day, so I am going to read and blog and blog and read. Or take a nap. Having Easter church services online is so weird, but luckily yesterday our church held the annual Easter Egg hunt - as a drive-thru! Every stayed far from each other, parents drove through and our children's ministry leader wore gloves and a mask and handed each kiddo a bag filled with Easter goodies, crafts, stories, and the like. Definitely different, but such a comfort to see our pastors and ministry leaders and people we love so much.

  6. Struggling to read here, too! Disney+ has been so so helpful!
Also, that Adele parody had me giggling!
    Have a great week!

  7. It is the best way to be, living in the moment and focusing on the things we can control.

Reading will improve when we are ready to engage; being surrounded by the books is the first step.

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog. Stay safe.

  8. OMG that song!!!! The guy is talented!!! Shared on my page because that's too good :-) Now I am happy that you are safe and healthy Nicci!

  9. Don't worry about the reading, Nicci. It will come back at some point, I'm sure. And at least you have other things to keep you busy and entertained.
I agree with you, it's easier to think about the things we actually can control right now. And staying home is one of those things. Trying to be happy with the fact that we have food, shelter, and that our loved ones are safe is another.
I hope you'll have a good week ahead, stay safe and healthy :)

  10. Don´t feel bad because you are not reading as much as you normally would. We all cope with it the best way we can and enjoy even the small things. This dark time will go over and hopefully we all get out of it safe and sound. Hang in there and stay safe!

  13. I think that's what we all need to focus on, the things we actually do have control over. It's been far too easy to become overwhelmed lately. I've been lacking the drive to read, and am finding it hard to stay focused. I think we are all going a little stir crazy at this point. Try to stay positive.

  14. We are focusing on the positives here as well. We had our Easter yesterday since the Royal go between here and their Dad's house. We ended up watching Trolls World Tour last night after our feast and backyard egg hunt. Be safe!

  15. I hope you have a fun Easter. I think it's good not to worry too much about reading less, I think we all go through times when we read less. And that's okay, you'll get back in a reading mood eventually. And It sounds like you're enjoying your Disney Plus and other movies. Have a great week!

  16. I think focusing on the positive is the best thing to do. I've stopped watching the news so much. I can only take so much Trump without being annoyed, and unfortunately he figures prominently on any news.

Hope you have a lovely Easter even though it's not how'd you'd usually spend it. :)

  17. I feel so uncertain I'm not doing much with projects. The days all kind of seem the same. Luckily, I have the necessary stuff to do with the dog, the girl, laundry, cleaning ,etc. I am doing plenty of reading. And I get excited about something here and there.

I love that video. But seriously, the reason I need pants is POCKETS. I always have too much to carry. Everything from phone, Kindle, earbuds, drink, hammer & nails, clean laundry, snacks, or whatever else is happening.

Have a healthy, safe week! Happy Easter!

  18. We aren't really religious either, and so were happy to spend Easter the way we normally do--an Easter egg hunt and baskets full of goodies. We are going to enjoy a movie a little later. I am still not reading a whole lot. We are doing a Marvel Superhero movie marathon of sorts and will be coming up to Captain America soon. He's my favorite. :-) I love Inside Out. This past week was better for me emotionally. As you mentioned, I focused more on the here and now and what I could control. One of my new staff members is in quarantine right now, having just been tested for the virus. We'll find out next week if the test comes back positive or negative. I hope you enjoy your new book, Kiss of the Irish, when you read it. Thanks for sharing the video! I have been getting a kick out of all the parody songs made during this crisis. I hope you have a good week. Stay safe and well.

  19. Yeah it's just another day to me too. But Happy Easter.

  20. I think your decision to be as positive as you can is a wise one. It's such a difficult situation - and I think we can only get through by doing the best each of us can. I hope you have another peaceful, healthy week, Nicci.

  21. I'm working on my positivity, too. Some days I do fine, but others....

Such a funny video! Funny videos help so much. Thanks!

  22. This is definitely a weird time... a weird Easter! We'd usually be out at a huge family gathering eating lots of food and chocolate and watching the kiddos hunt for eggs. Man, I miss family gatherings. But it's for the best.

I have also been in the worst reading slump! But today I finally finished my first book of the month! Granted, the book was pretty meh, but I finished it! Lol. And definitely don't stress about it. I've spent the last month watching anime and a bunch of movies, too. I also saw that Toy Story 4 was on Disney+, so I'll definitely be watching that one of these days! And I've also been really wanting to watch The Invisible Man. I keep hearing that it's really good!

  23. I like how you said that- even with all the things we can't control, there are things we can. so true. And so far we've been safe too so I'm thankful for that as well! Hope you guys had a great Easter. :) We colored eggs today so that was fun lol.

    I need Disney +!!

  24. I think a positive mindset is the most helpful thing during this lockdown.

Wishing you a great reading week, good health and a Happy Easter ๐Ÿฃ

  25. I think all of us feel a bit like life is suspended but worried about the virus. I'm grateful that my family and loved ones are all okay, but we are all trying to be careful. Even then I do worry about the kids who have asthma and one that has cystic fibrosis and my brother who is a nurse who works in a hospital. I hope this week goes well for you and you get another book read! Thanks for stopping by! :)

  26. I'm still struggling with the reading too! I'm spending five days on books I can usually read in two! Still, it's better than nothing! I'm not one for going out really but I'm missing my daily newspaper! I need it to keep up with the scrapbook cuttings for the pandemic. Funny it's the simple things like that and a quick trip to a supermarket if I discover I'm short of things or take a notion for a specific thing!

  27. Easter is kind of a non-holiday for us, too. I don't do anything special for the day, it's just another Sunday. Like you, I've been trying to focus on the positive. We are safe at home, we have food and all the necessities, we are able to work from home... so I tell myself this is just a temporary inconvenience.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I hope you had a great Easter. We aren't religious either.. but I love spending this time with my family.
LOL!! That text made me smile.

    Stay safe and happy reading.

  29. I think trying to focus on the positive is a good idea. I've been trying to do the same. Some days work out better than others but I'm trying, lol.

  30. Totally agree with your mindset. And we'll get through this and handle whatever's on the other side. *fist bumps*
