Alternating, first person pov.
No.
No, but there's plenty of unresolved stuff so I assume the world and fates of characters will evolve through a different couple each book in the series.
Yes, I guess so but as I said above, plenty of stuff unresolved.
No.
Yes, lots of alpha vampire fighting and blood-letting.
There's also an absolute prick of a vampire who attempts to rape Vivi.
Annnd... It was good. I really enjoyed it.
It took a while for me to get into the story. It felt a bit wooden in the beginning and I didn't immediately like Vivi or Lucca (and his Blueblood gang) but the further into the story I went, the more I enjoyed it.
There's a fair amount of information to absorb. The world has vampires, shifters, witches, familiars and a mysterious magical race called Nightingales.
The series offers a unique spin on vampires and understanding where they came from, the dynamics of their world and their relationship with the other races is a puzzle.
The bulk of the story is set within an Institute which gave the book a bitchy prep school feel which felt a bit out of place when you're dealing with supernatural creatures that are hundreds of years old... It was distracting to be honest, but once the essentials were imparted and you got used to the environment, it was easy to sink into the story and just enjoy how Vivi and Lucca's relationship developed. Their chemistry was explosive and addictive and I loved the fiercely protective drive of a male vampire with his mate!
With an interesting collection of secondary characters and a whole load of questions left unanswered, I'm excited to read more books in the series!

It’s been so long since I’ve read a vampire story. Or just a good paranormal in general. Prep school drama + powerful supernatural beings seems like an odd mix but it sounds like overall it worked.
