Weekly Update #103

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

I'm so tired of the world right now. People are ridiculous.
The level of stupid in the air is draining and I swear to god I'm ready so self-isolate just to not have to bloody witness it anymore.
That said, I won't until the science-based, government-issued, advice is to do so.
I like science. Science is good.
Bulk buying toilet paper because everyone else is bulk buying toilet paper is loony-tunes.

In other news, it was the little dude's birthday this weekend and we had fun.
Cake, gifts then a meal at our local Mexican restaurant (his choice) and a trip to the oceanarium to participate in the penguin feeding was on the ticket and he was so happy so job accomplished!

Today, I need some time to catch up on laundry, housework, and blog stuff.
I'm so behind on all of it!

Freebies & KU

A Damsel and A Demigod is a Guild Codex novella from the pov for Kai and I'm excited to read it!
Reaper's Blood was a freebie from a RARE 2020 author who I haven't read before so I'll check it out (sounds like my kind of thing) and The Real Cinderella is a YA Cinderella re-telling that I'm curious about even though Cinderella is my least fav fairytale.

Hardback

I have a thing about buying all of Maas's books in physical form but I'm going to admit that it may have been a bad move with A House of Earth and Blood! It is freaking HUGE. And heavy. But it does have pretty red coloured edges... I'll deal.

I didn't watch anything this week!
No TV, no movies... How strange.

  1. Our government is already recommending us to only leave home if we have to go to the supermarket or pharmacy. I guess it's because Portugal is a small country... Anyway, I have been trying to stay at home because I'm part of a risk group.

Happy belated birthday to the little dude! =D

The Real Cinderella seems interesting - I can't resist to retellings.

    Happy readings!

    1. Fingers crossed you manage to escape it! I think I've all but accepted that I'll get it at some point but it doesn't mean I'm not going to do my utmost to avoid it, you know?
I think our government will start shutting things down at some point, it's just a question of when not if! Until then, I'm going to be sensible and cautious and just get on with things... Worrying about stuff I have little control over is futile.

  2. What a fun birthday! And, the kid picked Mexican, which is one of my favorite cuisines. I would self isolate if possible. I mean, I have not left the house since Friday, when I made the mistake of going to the market. I read a report, that the virus was found to last 3 hours in the air and days on plastic surfaces. It's a hardy virus.

    1. It's a beastly one by all accounts but it's hardiness just convinces me that people need to be sensible about it. We CANT lock ourselves in our homes for months until it passes. It just won't work... So, caution and sense need to prevail. Although, locking myself indoors for a little while could be amusing.

  3. Crescent City sounds good. I've listened to one of Sarah j, moss books. YA is loving her especially on Booktube.

  4. People are being too crazy everywhere. Wipes, diapers, toilet rolls, hand sanitizers seem scarce. The schools, gyms, cinema and all entertainments are closed for another two weeks here in Dubai. I hope things get better soon. Stay safe!

  5. I am good on toilet paper without going batsh!t crazy in stores Nicci! And I bet that your SJM's book comes from Waterstone no? Because I ordered their special edition and it has sprayed edges too!

    1. It does come from Waterstones! 😊

I too am good on toilet paper without having enough to build a house from the stuff... Some people just don't understand the difference between "being prepared" and "being insane", lol. Not looking forward to the lockdown (for it will come) but will appreciate some extra reading time!

  6. People really are insane. My family can't currently find toilet paper, but we're looking. It's just...why?? Stop the hoarding! Sheesh. I'm glad your son had a nice birthday though. I'd love to do a penguin feeding!!

    1. See? It's madness. Toilet paper! Of all things! Hope you find some. Lockdown without any would be... An interesting experience!

  7. Schools are shut down here (Ohio, USA) for 3 weeks per the govenors orders. I will be teaching digitally for the time being. All gatherings of more than 100 people have been cancelled. No sports tournaments can be played (Initially they were just going to not allow in person spectators, but now they have stopped the players from playing). Stores are out of just about everything. I've decided its just safer to stay home-people are getting vicious!

    1. School closures were announced last night (wed)... Effective from Friday. :/

It's insane how quickly the government has started locking things down since I posted this on Sunday... Social distancing in full effect!

    1. It was. I'm glad we managed to celebrate before the government announced the beginning of social distancing here.

  9. I'm glad that in the middle of all the nonsense Little Dude had a great birthday - feeding penguins sounds like so much fun:)). I feel very relieved that the Government are taking expert advice and delaying extreme measures until they think it absolutely necessary. But panic buying sucks:(. Have a peaceful, healthy week, Nicci.

    1. The panic buying has just gotten worse since the social distancing order came down... I hope you and your family stay safe Sarah!

  10. First, House of Earth and Blood--I cannot WAIT to read that one! Ugh! I'm so jealous you got it! I'm on a bit of a self-inflicted book embargo at the moment...I have so many to read already!

Secondly, I hear ya on the crazy... We went out to the store yesterday and it was bonkers! We were out just getting stuff for our normal week and I was AMAZED at the crazy!

    1. I NEED to have an embargo! I have been grabbing sales and freebies (and others) left right and centre lately... Need to spend some time actually reading!

  11. I'm tired of the world right now. <<<--- That right there. So with you. Glad the birthday weekend was a hit. I haven't even checked out the new one by SJM yet so I'm not even sure what it's about or if it's YA or adult. I should probably look it up.

    1. It's adult and it sounds so weird... But I like her ToG and ACOTAR so I'm game!

  12. I agree, the level of stupid as absolutely astounding. I live in Washington state, so you can imagine what it's currently like here 😬 They just announced school closures across the state for 6 weeks and social distancing has already been recommended. I'm a nurse, so there's no such thing as social distancing for me when I gotta go to work. Lol. Anyway, I'm not panicking cause that wont do anyone any good, I just wish other people would do the same.

Stay safe and have a good week.

    1. Our schools are going to be closed from this coming Friday (20th) with NO date for reopening... It's extraordinary!

You're not wrong with the not panicking... People are showing their ugly sides right now and it's brought on by the panic. The media isn't helping.

  13. We're good on stuff since I always have it. The other things we like to eat apparently aren't popular since I could get them. I did get one extra package of toilet paper but there was plenty earlier in the week. I think things will get very bad before they get better. So we are just home all the time. It's spring break now anyway. We will see how things go.

Thanks for the heads up on the guild codex novella! I have KU so I grabbed it right away. I've been doing the audio on the rest. I want to read the Maas book but I only do digital these days and I might go with audio on it. YAY! you are caught up on the Read-along. I hope you will link your reviews to the Read-along to share with others.

Stay safe and healthy and enjoy your new books!

    1. We're good on stuff too... I had to brave Costco this week to make sure I had enough cat food if they locked us down and they had security guards at the toilet paper and were issuing one pack (huge packs to be fair!) per person... Madness.

  14. I agree. Science is good. Watching people with shopping carts full of toilet paper... not so much lol. Good grief. I mean wanting to be prepared but it's just ridiculous out there...

Anyway glad you guys had a nice birthday celebration for your son, and have a good week ahead! stay well!

    1. Science is very good. The only upside to the toilet paper nonsense is the memes... So many funny memes! And we all need some humour right now.

  15. Everyone's been insane here too! Our grocery stores are cleaned out and picked over. Schools are close until the end of the month, and gatherings over 250 are banned.

Glad to hear your son had a nice birthday amidst all the craziness! Nice to see you loved Iron Kissed! :)

  17. I wish people would calm down and stop buying all the pet stuff and baby stuff. I need some of it to feed my dog and baby! I’m glad Little Dude had a fun birthday. Mine is this week, and I’m looking forward to cake. Have a great week!

  18. Yeah, I think people are definitely going overboard with the buying. Caution makes sense, but this frantic buying of everything on the shelves does not.

Glad your little one had a fun birthday! Feeding the penguins sounds like a dream come true!!

  20. I want to get these next two days over with so we can self isolate and try and relax a bit. I feel better about my uncle's supplies after giving him some yesterday and we're taking him more today. He must be the only one in Scotland not to buy bog roll!!! Luckily, I have spare! Today is the final messages run, tomorrow we collect prescriptions-then it is stay in except for bread, milk and papers. I'll be doing that and I have gloves and I'm not afraid to use them!!!

    1. Lol, my mum managed to find a big (24) pack in her local Aldi and was allowed to buy two so she grabbed one for herself and one for my aunt/uncle. Up until that point, she was like "I have 2 in the cupboard, that'll be enough for a while." Sigh... I'm glad she has finally got some supplies in! And I'm glad you've managed to get through to your uncle and get him stocked up too! :) Now, here's to staying healthy!
