Weekly Update #99

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

Work continues to be hard and my energy level remains in the gutter but I've been trying to break myself out of my low mood.
So this week I've spent time baking, colouring, watching TV/movies, reading and catching up on people's discussion posts and it has been nice.
I have a long way to go until I'm back to my usual self but I feel like this week was a good one and that it's a good start!

The schools broke up for half-term on Friday so this week will see the little dude spending a couple of days with family before the professor and I take a few days to do some fun stuff. The weather has been stupid lately (lots of rain and storms) so planning is difficult but we have one event booked for Friday night and we'll just wing it on the other days.

I went mad. Full-on took leave of my senses... Amazon freebies, newsletter freebies, 99p sales, other sales, full-price books... This week had it all.
And part of me isn't sorry because overall, I didn't actually spend that much for the volume of books I got but time! When will I find the time?!
19 books! 😭

99p Sale

I'm so excited about these!

Other Sale

The Others was £1.49 but the Avery Flynn books were only 90p! Bit of a random number but I'm not going to argue.

Amazon Freebies

Two of these (Wasted Words and The Extra) sound fun.
The other two I grabbed because they're written by authors attending RARE 2020 that I haven't read before... Not sure about them but I'll give them a go!

Newsletter Freebies

I don't quite understand why so many freebie book opportunities are being emailed at the moment but I won't complain!

I finished the Dark Tempest audiobook and it was awesome! The final book in the trilogy is going to break my heart! I know it!

Kill The Queen had been on my kindle for ages but I was too nervous to read it.
With the release of the final book coming up, it was time and it was so good!

I've watched a lot of tv this week.
Explains why I haven't done as much reading as I wanted!

Lets see... I binge-watched season 1 of Mindhunter (which was awesome) and I watched a few more episodes of Lost In Space S2 and this week's episode of Picard.

To All The Boys I loved Before: PS. I Still Love You dropped on Netflix this week so I immediately pounced on that and thought it was lovely but not as good as the first one.

And, we went to the cinema to see the new movie adaptation of Jane Austin's Emma.
It was wonderful.
What surprised me most though was that both the professor and the little dude came with me to watch it and that they enjoyed it too!

I don't know!
My task for today is to write some posts!

Have a great week all!

  1. Way to self-care there. Glad it helped. Hope you and the Prof enjoy your gown-up time together, and that the boy enjoys his time with family (and no school, which is always good). I can't believe Speakeasy was free. I paid for that book, and obviously, I have not read it yet. Those were good sales too. I hope you love Chloe Brown, Girl He Used to Know, Awk-Weird and Parental Guidance. I enjoyed them all

  2. I have been sent a few newsletter freebies when I first sign up for newsletters in the past few months. I love that. There are some freebie books with large giveaways where you are automatically signed up for newsletters when you enter too. Freebies are good.

    1. I like them too. They make me try author that I maybe not try otherwise. :)

  3. I'm glad this week was a good week and things seem to be turning better. It takes time, but it sounds like you're doing what you need to take care of you! I want to see the new Emma, I'm glad it was good! And wow, you did get a lot of books. Now where I try not to go grab them all too lol!

Have an even better week! Hugs!

    1. I'm in shock of how many books I ended up with! Don't quite believe it...

  4. Glad you are able to look after yourself in the light of the shocking weather, Nicci. Hope you are all safe and dry! What an impressive haul of books - and I hope you and the Prof have some enjoyable quality time together:)).

  5. Enjoy your haul! I got more than usual this week, too. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Replies
    1. It's a bit much! But thankfully they dont expire! :)

  7. I hope your weather improves so you can enjoy your half term break. Weather can put a damper on things for sure, especially this time of year. All the rain and snow people are getting!

I like the sound of the new Emma, think I want to see that. I need to find some time for the To All the Boys sequel too, although my expectations are a little lower since I've heard it's not quite as good. Anyway- hope you have a great week!

    1. Definitely not as good as the first but still enjoyable. I haven't read the books so I'm not comparing it to source material either, just the previous movie. :)

  8. I so understand your mood. It's taken me months of fighting against going under with it. I think I'm finally coming around. I hope. {hugs to you}

  9. Yay for all the fun stuff! And wow, you got some amazing books there at a reasonable cost. I also loved Kill the Queen.

Our weather is also in a stupid cycle: a couple days of nice, a couple days of rain, a couple days of freezing, over and over, every week. The freezing is mostly on the weekend. I want to get started on the spring garden and it has to be only about a month away.

Enjoy all those new reads and have a fabulous week!

  10. I'm glad to hear you're starting to feel better! ❤ And 19 books... WOW! That's pretty awesome! Maybe not for your TBR pile, but still πŸ˜‰ Lol. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Kill the Queen! I love Jennifer's writing! She is probably one of my favorite authors.

  11. It is so good to hear that you are starting to feel a bit better and are getting back to 'normal' - I have started to hit my stride and am actually writing reviews again! It's nice to have things up on the blog once again besides the weekly features I participate in. And girrrrrrrl, nice haul!!

  12. I'm glad to hear that you're finally starting to feel a little better. I hope the improvement continues. And wow, looks like you picked up a lot of great books on sale this week. I hope you enjoy them all!

  13. I've been hesitant to read Kill the Queen too! I won a copy AGES ago, but I never grab it when I'm looking for something to read. I've only heard good things about it, so I think I'm worried it won't live up to my expectations.

I went a little crazy with book-buying a few months ago (all the holiday sales after Christmas), and I'm still recuperating, haha. I hope you enjoy them all!

  14. I'm glad you had a better week though I hear you about the storms. I thought our roof was going to come off at one point last night and I feel for everyone flooded out. It is certainly weather to make you stay in and watch TV!

  15. Yes, you need to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of others. πŸ’œ

I have tried and tried and tried to like Jane Austen's writing, but I haven't managed it yet. I have, however, loved every television and film adaptation I have watched! Great to see the Little Dude liked the new Emma, too. πŸ‘✨

I hope you have had a wonderful start to your week! 🌞

  16. Sorry for the low mood Nicci! And yes the weather is awful in belgium too after Ciara we also get Dennis! You can't know how I am happy to see Dark tempest and Kill the Queen on your feed as both were recent discoveries for me and I loved them both so much!

  17. I'm glad you were able to have a somewhat better week! I hope your Friday adventure is fun! And wow, 19 books?! But hey, those are some good prices! You'll find time for them eventually, right? LOL I loved season 1 of Mindhunter, but I really need to watch the second season.

  18. I hope you enjoy all the freebies and they help boost your mood. Have a great week.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  19. Sorry to hear the week was a struggle. I hope the family outings provide some escape/diversion. 19 books in one week? YES! *fist pump* Now that had to help lift your spirits. LOL And seeing two by Sarina Bowen and one by Anne Bishop makes me positively giddy! :)

  20. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling so good. Glad to hear this week has been better for you, though. I hope you have some fun times with the little dude on the time off!

The Others is such a fab series! I hope you love it, too! Nice getting a free Sarina Bowen! Enjoy all your finds. Oh, I need to check out the new Emma! Didn't even know, I guess because I've got my nose in a book most of my free time, lol. :)

  21. Sorry to hear about your work being hard. I hope it gets better soon. And hopefully the baking and coloring helped a bit.

Nice haul you had this week and even better that so many of them were discounted. I still plan to read or listen to that Annette Marie series. I listened to Kill the Queen last year and I really enjoyed it as well. I have to continue the series soon. I hope this week is a good one for you!
