It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!
I survived January!!!
Yep. That is my outside of books update this week.
It is my biggest achievement: I survived January.
In other news... We had to take one of the little dude's hamsters to the vet as she had developed a tumour on her side pressing up against her back leg.
It was cancer so we had to let her go. Cancers are incredibly common in hamsters but she wasn't one year old yet so it was far earlier than expected, for something like this, which was sad.
I haven't added any new ones!
😇
I've had a nice and varied reading week and each was a great read!

Yes - I hate January, too. Sorry to hear about the hamster, Nicci:(. We now need to endure February, personally my least favourite month - and hopefully the worst of the winter will be over... Have a great week:)).
I can't believe January is over! So sad about your hamster. :(
Yay for diving into Mercy Thompson! I hope you love the coming books. The whole Adam/Samuel/Mercy triangle is resolved in book 3, so yay! Hope you enjoy it, Nicci. :)
Love that quote about falling in love with a character's soul - so true! I'm sorry to hear about the hamster; that's really sad they didn't live too long. I didn't realize cancer was a common thing for hamsters. :( Yay for surviving January!!!
It seems like a lot of people feel the same about surviving January. Long, hard month. Sorry to hear about the hamster. :( Love that quote at the bottom - so true.
I'm so sorry to hear about your hamster. We had several hamsters when my daughter was younger so I know how that is. Poor little thing. Glad that you survived January.
Thank you, he's ok. Kids seem to bounce back from things like this super quickly. It probably helps that he still has her sister (we bought the hamsters in a pair).
Sounds like you had a good week! It was definitely a relief to get through January and it won't be surprising if February just flies by! I enjoyed the Bride Test and cannot wait for Helen Hoang's new book to round out the series(?). Hope you have a great week!
I swear I barely survived January, it felt forever! I'm so sorry to hear about the hamster, that's so sad. It's never easy losing a pet, even a hamster. The Bride Test is on my TBR, I'm glad to see you liked it.
Yay for surviving January and I'm so glad that January is over too. So sorry to hear about your little hamster. Hope February is a better month for you.
Sometimes just getting through the month is a big accomplishment so I understand. I had no idea cancer was so common in hamsters. I am sorry about the fact you had to let your furry friend go. I hope you have a fantastic week!
What a shame about the hamster. That's the problem with this kind of pet-at best life span is short and then something like this happened. I had similar issues with my gerbils as a kid.
Oh yes, we survived January! I thought the same when I was going for a walk this afternoon in bright sunshine. Sorry to hear about your hamster. Sometimes life is a real bitch.
So sorry to hear about your kiddo's hamster. I had no idea cancer was so common in hamsters. Eleanor lost a fish a couple nights ago. She had two of those cool Glofish named Mona Lisa and Leonardo (she picked the names herself, she's six!) I changed the water in the tank like normal and within four minutes of being back in the tank, she died. It is so hard on kiddos, especially when the pets are so young.
I am sorry to hear about the hamster. We had rats for a while and tumors were really common with them too, such a shame as they are awesome pets. Although they often could be operated to remove the tumor. It's ad that hamster got cancer so young.
Looks like you had a nice varied reading week. Have a great week.
Love the dancing gifs. Where do you get your gifs btw?
ReplyDeleteI've been having a difficult time finding the appropriate place in the html code to place my gifys. Any help with that? Do you embed the code?
DeleteWell Nicci your gif made me laugh!!! And sorry for your hamster :-((( Let's hope you'll do more than survive February!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm hoping February is the start of a happy new year! lol
DeleteSorry about the hamster. ((HUGS)) to the boy, and I am glad you survived January. The good news is Feb is a short month.
ReplyDeleteThank you, he's ok. It's weird how kids handle stuff like that.
DeleteYes it was a survival thing for January. We adjusted to my daughter's new schedule. Cancer sucks wherever it is. People, pets.
ReplyDeleteYay I'm glad to see you are reading Mercy with us!
I hope this week and this month are amazing for you, at least more than survival. Happy reading!

ReplyDeleteFebruary's saving grace is that it is a short month! Fingers crossed it's a better one than last!

DeleteLove that quote about falling in love with a character's soul - so true!

Super common in hamsters. It grows super fast too so one week they can be fine and within a couple of weeks have a MASSIVE lump... It's insane.
DeleteIt seems like a lot of people feel the same about surviving January. Long, hard month. Sorry to hear about the hamster. :( Love that quote at the bottom - so true.
ReplyDeleteJanuary sucks. Yeay for February!
DeleteThat GIF lol. That's about it too- I'm glad January is gone haha! And oh no- I'm sorry to hear about the hamster. Poor thing...
ReplyDeleteShe was a sweetie. :( I know they dont live long anyway but it sucks that she didnt even get a normal lifespan.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your hamster. We had several hamsters when my daughter was younger so I know how that is. Poor little thing. Glad that you survived January.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary!
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your hamster. I lost my cat to cancer too. I hope February turns out better.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings!
Cancer sucks! I've lost two cats within the last 3 years to cancer. :(
DeleteSo sorry about your hamster! How crushing that it for the little one. I hope he took it okay.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week!
Thank you, he's ok. Kids seem to bounce back from things like this super quickly. It probably helps that he still has her sister (we bought the hamsters in a pair).
DeleteSad to hear about your hamster. I hope it is not too traumatic for your son.
ReplyDeleteYou really enjoyed Bride Test. Thanks for sharing that.
The Bride Test was awesome. :)

Yep! January - the month that refused to end. :)
DeleteIt took me forever to read The Bride Test and I'm kicking myself for taking so long!
Yay for surviving January and I'm so glad that January is over too. So sorry to hear about your little hamster. Hope February is a better month for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThat's how I've felt the past few months and Feb isn't getting off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteI know you had a really tough January so BE GONE! and on to better things.
Karen @ For What It's worth
Fingers crossed your rough start to Feb doesn't ruin the entire month. Fonzi is on the mend again! That's something.
DeleteYay for making it through January! I'm sorry to hear about your hamster. That's so sad.
ReplyDeleteIt was sad. Such a shame she never even got a normal life span but I guess that's cancer! It doesn't discriminate...
DeleteSometimes just getting through the month is a big accomplishment so I understand. I had no idea cancer was so common in hamsters. I am sorry about the fact you had to let your furry friend go. I hope you have a fantastic week!
ReplyDeleteSuper common unfortunately. :(
DeleteYESSSSSS... January sucks..aside from my granddaughter's birthday. Glad you made it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm glad that your granddaughter's birthday was a little slice of happy!
DeleteWhat a shame about the hamster. That's the problem with this kind of pet-at best life span is short and then something like this happened. I had similar issues with my gerbils as a kid.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I just feel bad she never even got close to her lifespan, you know?
DeleteOh yes, we survived January! I thought the same when I was going for a walk this afternoon in bright sunshine. Sorry to hear about your hamster. Sometimes life is a real bitch.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is!

I had rats when I was a teenager. All died of cancer. :(
