Welcome!
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!
This year sucks.
Yes, yes, we're less than two weeks in but I'm telling you, this better not be an indication of how the rest of the year goes or they can take it back. Reset it or something.
Gah, it's been horrid... Seriously.
First week back at work and it's been BRUTAL. I don't think I've had a week as hard as this one in the five years I've worked there. I've tried my best to shield my team from the worst of things but pending the outcome of decisions in the coming week, it may have been all for nothing.
It's a case of wait and see and I hate to wait and see!
But that's all we can do. ๐ซ
Despite a crappy week at work, I got some reading done, binged some TV, and caught up on blog visits! I also got some errands done this weekend and I'm going into the coming week of misery fairly well organised.
It's the little victories folks...
In other news, the professor adopted a cat.
Her name is Vesta.
She's an adolescent tortie ragdoll (16 months) and we brought her home just before New Year's as she urgently needed rehoming. I haven't mentioned her until now as we were seeing how she'd settle in but I'm pleased to say she's settled in extremely well. Her breed is incredibly laid back so I probably shouldn't have been so surprised but I am. Even my devil cat - Dora - has decided to accept her into the family. I had so many mixed emotions about taking on another cat so soon after losing Athena but I'm a big softie who loves cats and couldn't say no when he brought her listing to me.
So here we are with another fluff ball.
99p Sale
I've seen a few 4 & 5 Star reviews for this lately so I couldn't resist grabbing it while it was on sale!
Plus, I love the cover. ๐
Moon Called - ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I read this book when it released years ago and wasn't a fan. Decided to try again (over 10 years later!) and what do you know? I really enjoyed it! Much different from what I remember.
I'm looking forward to continuing with the series as part of
Books of My Heart's read-along!
The Serpent's Shadow - ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A wonderful end to a wonderful series! I really enjoyed Rick Riordan's Egyptian Gods and Magicians and will miss them... That's why I HAD to move straight onto the Kane/Jackson crossover novellas!
The Son of Sobek - ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A Carter Kane and Percy Jackson crossover novella. Fabulous! I will never not love Percy and Carter is pretty awesome too. Combine them? So much fun!
I'll probably finish the other two novellas this coming week on the commute and that's something to look forward to!
The Good Place.
There are so many other shows I'd rather be watching but the professor has had this on as background viewing and now I'm hooked. It's pretty funny and the episodes are short. We've already finished the second season and are going onto the third...
(Ooops! Didn't get all my posts finished... Oh well. No one died.)

Have a great week all!
I'm not a cat person but she does look very fluffy! Ugh sounds like a really crappy week at work. I am glad that you enjoyed Moon Called this time round-I love that series!
ReplyDeleteShe is super fluffy!! :)
DeleteI'm looking forward to continuing the series.
I hope 2020 gets better for you, but I also feel your pain. ((HUGS)) But, how wonderful that you and Vesta have found each other. She's lovely! I liked Love Lettering. I hope you enjoy it too
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam! I'm sure it will... Just not a great start!
Delete" this better not be an indication of how the rest of the year goes or they can take it back." -- Baaaahaaahaa!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Lord...I'm sorry your year is off to a bad start, truly I am, but that line made me laugh so hard.
At least you have new kitty in the house! Look how cute Vesta is!
Hope things get better at work SOON!
Lol, glad I could make you laugh!
DeleteHopefully it'll all get better... We're only two weeks in!
Vesta is beautiful!
ReplyDelete2020 is definitely not off to a good start with all the world disasters! My year is starting off ok but everyone I know is sick and feels the same as you!
Hopefully it starts to look up or it's going to be a LONG year!
Happy reading!
It's got to look up. I believe it'll get better... Hope it'll get better. It'll get better. Yep. :)
DeleteWell, I'm sorry things have been horrid. I HATE wait and see - I want to KNOW. There is a lot of trouble in the world and so many of our blogger friends are sick. I may be tired from the blur of this past week but I'm fine. I can't have cats, it's my worst allergy, but she is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining the Read-along. I am enjoying it. I'm going to try the audio on some but it may not work since it's the same narrator as Charley Davidson so it might sound too much like that one. I own all the ebooks anyway.
I look forward to your questions and observations since it is new to you.
I really hope this week is great for you and you enjoy some amazing books!
Anne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Aww, sorry to hear you're allergic to cats! I'm often surprised by how many people are! At least you're okay with dogs. :)
DeleteI need to jot down my thoughts on Moon Called before starting the next one otherwise I'll get myself all tangled up! I'm ebooking them.
The year felt better until I went back to work. Now everything feels stressful and rushed again. :( Vesta!! Look at her!
ReplyDeleteShe's so cute, right? Her personality is so funny too. She's sweet as pie but also demanding. A proper prissy little princess.
DeleteI hate the wait and see game. I like to be in control of things! The new cat is super cute! I am VERY allergic to cats so I could never have one.
ReplyDeleteSo many people struggle with cats... That's why she had to be rehomed. The original owners daughter was horribly allergic to her despite being fine with the other cat they'd had pretty much all her life (which was a short haired cat).
DeleteVesta is adorable. I'm glad all the animals are getting along. Sorry to her about the stressful work week.
ReplyDeleteI'm so surprised as my other cat is a stress ball when it comes to any kind of change! :)
DeleteAhh so that’s what it’s called - the fuckening!
ReplyDeleteYour new kitty is cute, I’m sure you will love her too.
Wishing you a great reading week
The fuckening is a legit thing. :)
DeleteSo sorry you have had such a mare of a week at work and I hope the coming one isn't more of the same:(. Hopefully stroking Vesta might help de-stress you - she looks utterly adorable... I recently finished the Percy Jackson series, but have more Rick Riordan on my audiobook list, as my grandson loved his books at one stage. I'm looking forward to tucking into them during the year. Hope you have a better week, Nicci!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah! I listen to Rick Riordan on audio as my son has them all. Next up is either the Magnus Chase series or Trials of Apollo. :)
DeleteI am sorry your week has been such a rough one. I hope your fears about the situation at work will turn out to be a false alarm. As annoying as that can be, it is better than the alternative. I hate the waiting too. :-(
ReplyDeleteVesta is beautiful. I am glad she is fitting in so well into your household, Nicci. I am glad Dora seems to have accepted her as well. That's always a worry at first when you bring in a new pet!
Love Lettering does sound good, doesn't it? I am eager to read that one as well. I hope we both love it. It sounds like you had a good reading week this past week. I really enjoyed Moon Called.
I'm so glad you are enjoying The Good Place! It's a favorite in our house (well, between my husband and I).
I hope you have a better week, especially at work, Nicci!
Thank you! Sadly, I don't think it'll be a false alarm... My team may come our relatively unscathed but others within my group are going to get hit, you know? One way or another it'll suck majorly for someone.
DeleteI'm looking forward to Love Lettering. The Good Place really took me by surprise but I'm enjoying it. It's so bingeable!
Aww congrats on Vesta. she looks awesome. and sorry about the work stuff- that can be the worst. I'm not super fond of 2020 so far either lol.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope this week sucks less. :)
Sucks less would be good! :)
DeleteNicci I see that after our taste in music we do have another thing in common: managing a team and trying to protect them! I'll be back at work tomorrow and our times are brutal too! Oh and I do love animals too! Let's hope 2020 will be better from now on!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed!!
DeleteI'm sorry your work week has been so bad. I hope this is a better week. Vesta is beautiful! I'm so glad she's fitting right in. Enjoy your books and hope this is a great week for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI love your cat, so beautiful!!!I've been getting to people's posts later on later on Sundays due to an improv rehearsal and other things.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI've been so hit and miss with getting to posts lately because of various things but I'm hoping to get back into a good Sunday routine. :)
Sorry about the crappy week. I hope this one is better. The cat is adorable! So fluffy!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks!
DeleteI'm sorry work has been so tough, and I hope 2020 gets much better for you!! Aw, the new cat is beautiful and I'm glad she's settling in well.

Thanks Lauren!
DeleteSorry to hear that work isn't going well. Hope your year gets better! That is a cute fluffy cat glad she is settling in well.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and happy reading!
Stormi
Me too! It's got to get better, right?!
DeleteI don't even know where to begin! The fuckening is amazing and I love it!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry things at work have been so brutal and I hope everything turns out ok. I've been in those types of situations before and it really sucks.
Vesta is beautiful! I know how hard it is to lose a beloved kitty, and how hard it is to let another into your heart so soon! It's been a few years for me and I still can't believe my Disney is gone.
I hope this week is better for you!
Thanks! The Fuckening is real... Never had a term for it before but it's now my thing. :)
DeleteLosing a kitty never gets easier... We've now lost 3 in 3 years and it's left me a little bit broken. :(
I'm so sorry to hear you had such a bad week at work. I hate weeks like that. I really hope it gets better soon for you.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, your new cat is beautiful. I'm glad to hear she's settling in so well. I know what you mean about mixed emotions when getting new pets. It took me four years before I was ready to get another dog after my last one passed away. I'm glad I did though. I love having those furry family members. :)
The furry family members make the bad days a little bit better and the good days great. I adore them so much! They're so... simple, you know? Easy. They're a massive part of your day-to-day life and their love is uncomplicated and when it's gone it's such a huge blow. :(
DeleteHello, stop in from Dark Thoughts and sound like your new fur baby is settled in quite nicely. If you have time stop by for a cup of coffee
ReplyDeleteHi! Nice to "meet" you! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteOh boy, seems we all had some sort of crappy week last week. Well girl, keep your head held high we will go through this! Happy reading and hopefully you will have a great new week.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And you're right, we WILL get through this!
DeleteWhat a beautiful cat and I sincerely hope, this week is a better one for you!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh I'm sorry your January has been horrible so far. I really hope it improves. We've had great weather but since you've visited my blog, you know we got a new puppy and I'm seriously suffering from something I've tagged "puppy lag." Vesta is GORGEOUS and I'm so glad she worked out well in your home. Hang in there and I hope things look up!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And your new puppy is adorable!
DeleteI'm very sorry your year has not been going well. Let's hope for a huge shift in temperament around your office this week.
ReplyDeleteLovely cat!
I really hope work improves...
DeleteOh no I am so sorry to hear that your job is being brutal!! But that kitty!! ADORABLE! We have a tortie himalyan and she is also super laid back. Miso is her name(o). Fingers crossed for a better week!
ReplyDeleteHimalayans are beautiful! I've never met a long-haired cat (pure bred or otherwise) that wasn't a beautiful soul. They're so friendly and loving. I appreciate the fun loving chill of them. :)
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that your year is off to a rough start. However, that cat is flippin' adorable! ♥
ReplyDeleteShe's super adorable!
Deleteoh no sorry to hear Sorry to hear about work and that 2020 has year sucked for you so far! I was celebrating little victories on my blog too:) Vesta is so cute! Congrats on the new addition to the family :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! She's awesome.
DeleteVesta is so fluffy and cute! I'm happy to hear you were able to make room in your home and lives for her! Sorry to hear about a crappy work week week! Hope things improve. Yeah for enjoying Mercy Thompson! You're in for greatness! :)
ReplyDeleteI plan on reading book two this week for the read-a-long Anne (Books of My Heart) is hosting. It's nice pacing myself instead of binging the series until I burn out on it! :)
DeleteDespite work being awful it looks like you had a great reading week! I hope this week is going better at work! Congrats on your new cat. It’s great that there are people out there willing to help!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThat cat is SO CUTE. I can't have a cat bcuz my BF is allergic...
ReplyDeleteI laughed SO HARD about that quote, I need to keep that word in mind. Gonna use it... A lot.
I had an awful week, I was back at work and I was so TIRED and I was like WTF is this shT, I just had a vacation, I should be full of energy... Oh well. I'll get through it. Just waiting for the fuckening every day.
I always go back to work drained after a holiday, don't worry... I think it's normal? Actually, I have no idea but you are not alone!
DeleteI'm sorry your still having a rough time. Knock it off 2020!!!
ReplyDeleteVespa is gorgeous and I'm glad she's fitting in.
Karen @ For What It's worth
2020 needs to go do one! But I'm sure it'll get better...
DeleteYikes.. I'm sorry to read last week has been so rough. I hope this week is going much better. ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading.
Not so far but I still have hope for the month! There's two weeks left... It'll get better... I think!
DeleteI am sorry to hear your work week has been so brutal. I hope it gets better and that those decision turn out for the best.
ReplyDeleteAww your new cat looks adorable and so fluffy!
I haven't read Moon Called yet, but I have heard good things about that series. I read one book by the author years ago and wasn't impressed, but it turned out there was a novella that you had to read before that, after that I haven't been in a hurry to read any of her other books, but maybe I give Moon Called a try eventually.
I was in a similar position having previously read Moon Called (like YEARS ago... Over 10) and I didn't like it at all. I really enjoyed it this time around though so hopefully it continues! :)
DeleteI saw Vesta in IG. She's gorgeous. ๐ป๐ป๐ป
ReplyDeleteI hope whatever was going on at work settles down. ๐ฎ
