Weekly Update #90

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

So, when I wrote the bits below Saturday morning and set the post up for scheduling which is pretty normal for me...
Then I got a phone call in the afternoon from our vet telling me that my gorgeous girl, Athena, had been hit and killed by a car. 😭
Heartbroken doesn't even begin to cover it. She hadn't even reached her second birthday.

Photo was taken a week ago when we put the Christmas tree up.
I debated deleting everything else but kept it. It's still mostly true even if I'm going to spend a good chunk of the coming week(s) an emotional basket case.

🌻

Guys!
One more week and Christmas leave begins! In fact, less than a week!
Thursday is my last day in office until January 6th and I cannot wait!
The little dude finishes school on Friday and we have a nice weekend planned before my mum arrives for Christmas.
I'm excited.
In fact, I'm so excited about this coming week that I can barely remember what I did this week...

There was work and some Christmas shopping. Finishing off the house tidying and festive decorations. Some family Minecraft time (they released a world update) and my mum celebrated her 60th birthday.
Oh yeah, there was also a general election which always causes me to avoid the internet as people turn rabid.

Sadly, we couldn't make the trip up to Scotland to celebrate my mum's birthday but my family took her out to dinner and generally spoiled her which was awesome.
We're looking forward to 'birthday part two' when she arrives for the holidays.

⭐⭐⭐

This would have been much better as a full-length novel, squeezing it into a novella made it feel wrong. But it was still enjoyable.

Review Copy

As part of the book blitz for Insta-Crush by Kate Meader, I was given a no-obligation review copy of the book! I thought that was awesome.
Usually, I'm not a fan of random books in my inbox as I feel an obligation even when there isn't one but as this is one I'd have picked up to read anyway it's a win!

This week we watched both Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens and Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi. Yep! We're getting ready for Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - on Friday!

Giveaway Hop: Mid-Winter's Eve
Reading Challenge: Audiobook Challenge End of Year Update

    1. That's what's getting to me... She should have had YEARS, you know? She wasn't old, or sick... And it definitely hurts like losing a family member. She was such a big part of our life and the house feels completely wrong without her. :(

    1. Thanks Barb. It's been really hard. I started bawling on Christmas with the realisation she'd only had one Christmas before she died! We really miss her.

    1. Thanks Karen. It's muted the happiness for sure. I keep crying at random moments because something triggers that she's gone, forever. It's horrible.

  21. Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about Athena, Nicci :'( Losing a pet can be so painful and heartbreaking. I remember when I lost one of my cats, I kept his picture with me at all times (still do) and it was also Christmas time that I had his collar with a bell still wrapped to this day because it was supposed to be his present but he didn't make it to the 25th. I hope your precious kitty is in a better place now and she's lucky to have had a home with your family.

On a lighter side of things, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO YOUR MOM!! Glad to hear she was spoiled good on her birthday (it's what she deserves!). Here's to hoping part 2 of the celebration will be awesome (I mean, a birthday AND the holidays? That's an amazing combo).

    1. We lost another of our cats two days before Christmas two years ago so losing Athena at this time of the year is absolutely horrible. At least with Freya, she was 11 and had been ill with cancer... Athena was so young and perfectly healthy so it was such a shock, you know?
