Weekly Post #79

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

I harvested pumpkins!
We have 4 so far with one more to cut... Fingers crossed some of them survive for Halloween!

It rained... A lot.
But when it stopped raining for five minutes (okay, it was a bit longer) we went out collecting horse chestnuts to get ready for some conkers!
For those thinking "what the hell is conkers?" Conkers is a game where you attach a horse chestnut to a string and whack other peoples 'conkers'... Don't ask me why but it's a tradition!
We got quite a nice haul so we're going to experiment with all the random "treatments" you can do to make your conker more durable and see what one is best!

Erm, what else happened... Oh yeah. The little dude got sick so had to stay home from school Thursday/Friday which meant I had to take a day's leave and then WFH. The professor has now also come down with the lurgy so I'm just waiting for it to get me too.
😓

Oh! And after catching up on life last week, I fell behind again this week... Online and offline. Maybe not a surprise with a sick kid and husband but still. Annoying.

I said last week that I had a load of books in various stages of completion and thus this week I have a load of books finished!

(Plus one new / late addition to the list...)

The ARC arrived Friday evening. I loaded it onto the kindle and inhaled it before Saturday afternoon. Oh my god, guys... It broke my heart! I have no idea how I'm going to survive waiting for book 6! I adore these characters and so much is coming... I actually teared up with this one! Definitely more emotional than the other books.

ARC

I'm so pleased to have made it onto the review team for this author!

Lauren at Bookmark Lit has put together a #ReadForGrace event on Grace's birthday, October 14th.
The idea is that you read a book from Grace's TBR list... A book she never got to read, in her honour.

I checked Grace's TBR and she has quite a selection of books on there (and I only went up to page 8 or 9!) and I've decided to read one of the following:

I hope you'll join in too if you can!

🌻

Anna at Herding Cats & Burning Soup is hosting her annual  Blog Ahead challenge as well as launching a new "Get Your Shit Together Challenge which sounds amusing! I definitely need to get my shit together at the moment so sign me up!

We're still on the Big Bang Theory rewatch... Up to the mid-way point on S7 now!

Falling Inn Love was one I watched while ironing and it passed the time quite nicely.
That said, I think my attention would have wandered a lot if I tried to just sit and watch it... Definitely one for in the background while doing something else if that makes sense?

And since the little dude was ill we watched a few older movies while tucked up on the sofa!
Leroy & Stitch and Avengers Assemble bit of an odd combination but they're fun.

It's an old one but such a good one... 😍
I also love this live version because of the emotion in his voice... Gorgeous!

  5. Fingers crossed your pumpkins last. I am not sure if I would be able to hit people conkers, I would rather hit people with the conker...I have a list. ;D
I need to look at the readathon of Grace. That is fantastic. I still can't believe she passed. Such a nice thing to do in her honor.

  6. The readathon sounds great but I am so far behind on ARCS and tours I've committed I have to stick with them. You have some great looking books and I love the Annette Marie ones also. I have the audio ARC requested. I hope so much that you avoid the sick and the rest of your family gets well. Take care of yourself and have a wonderful week!

  8. Awww, hope your family gets better soon and that you don't catch it! That stinks. I've had the crud for almost a month.

OMG, I am DYING for The Alchemist and an Amaretto! I'm scared now though...my heart hurt so much even just after Demon Magic! I was going to read it as soon as it came out but I'm not sure now. I might wait until the NEXT one so I can read them at the same time.

  10. Yay for the pumpkins! I hope at least one survives for Halloween. They should be okay because the pumpkin farms have theirs out here already. 🎃

I hope the plague leaves your home. This flu seems very nasty. 😷

I never knew about conkers until the British members of a Harry Potter social site I used to be a member of were talking about it. I want photos! 😃

I need to do a series rewatch of Big Bang. 📺

Have a wonderful, and healthy, new week. 🌞

  12. Pumpkins are the best- I love this time of year. :) And the Annette Marie books look fabulous. I've been seeing em everywhere.

I love thinking of coffee as a magic potion! Nice :)

  13. I haven't played conkers since I was at primary school! I know some schools banned them for being dangerous, which is totally stupid! They want to ban everything that was fun! There seems to be some kind of viral thing going around...over the last few weeks my dad and I have felt like crap for a day or two then got better and it seems to be repeating every week or so which is irritating. I hope all of you are feeling better soon.

  14. Sorry to hear everyone is getting sick by you. Fingers crossed it doesn't get you! I love that you have a game called conkers. We used to pick chestnuts and play a sort of capture the flag sort of game with them. Pelting one another with the nuts as we tried to infiltrate the other team's base. Good times!

  15. I totally get the background watching thing, I’m not familiar with ironing though ;)

Wishing you a great reading week, and I hope you escape the lurgy.

  18. I miss the rain. It hasn't rained here since August and I'm desperate for one. I hope your son's recovering, also the professor. I hope you'll also stay in good health and not get sick. It sucks being sick especially when you have a ton of things to do.

  20. Sorry to hear your family are sick - I hate it when that happens. I hope they soon recover! Oh yes... conkers are upon still. Baking them slowly in the plate over of the old rayburn my granny cooked on was my tried and tested method of toughening them up:). I'll be interested to see how you get on with the various methods.

In the meantime, have a great week, Nicci - fingers crossed you dodge the lergies!

  21. It's been raining all week here too. At least we haven't had to worry about watering the sod that they put in our backyard! Hope your family is feeling better and you didn't catch it!
