Weekly Update #70

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

The kid is finally on summer break! Woohoo! 6 weeks of fun stuff and 3 day work weeks.
(I know I keep saying that but I'm so excited! lol)
It may be a late finish to the school year here but summer is in full swing!

We had ridiculously high temperatures for the UK this week... Well over the 30c mark. On a couple of the days, we were at 33c and 36c. The highest recorded temp was 38c. That's, what, around the high 80s to mid/high-90s in f? That's just not something we see all that often over here! Plus, homes don't have air conditioning. It's 50/50 on whether shops and public buildings have it so it has been near unbearable.
When the temps cooled to the nice and toasty mid-20s on Friday, I was doing the happy dance.

The little dude and I had our first summer trip, to Longleat Adventure Safari Park, on Friday and we had a great time. I've decided to do something a little bit different this summer and write up the family adventures on the blog so if you want to know more about Longleat visit tomorrow! 😊
If not, here is a picture of one of the cute Koalas.

Two of the four Longleat Koalas

For those that asked, the migraine meds were making me feel like the walking dead and I was barely able to function until around noon each day so they had to stop. I'm just waiting to speak to the doc about a lower dose or something different for I can't go on like that long term... I have a young kid and a full-time job. I need to be functioning. A few days of drowsiness would have been ok but I just wasn't adapting, if anything it was getting worse. Sigh. I'll get it sorted eventually.

⭐⭐

I was so disappointed with this book I could have cried.
I won't say any more as I've already reviewed it and ranted.
(Link below in "this week on the blog.")

⭐⭐⭐

No improvement on the first book in the series but it hasn't gotten worse.
I'm still interested so I'll continue reading with book three.

Kylie Scott is usually a dead cert for a good read for me so, of course, I bought her new one on release week. I've read it now and wish I hadn't.

Netgalley

I am not so secretly trash for a good and cheesy festive hallmark movie and this book has promised to be a hallmark movie in a book so I have expectations people.
(And yes, it felt slightly perverse requesting this while the sun is beating down but apparently I can be deviant like that.)

A feel good, heart-warming novel about about first loves and second chances?
Yes please!

From the Author

I got an eARC of The Bar Next Door by Katia Rose but the cover hasn't been revealed yet so I have nothing to show on here... Just didn't want to leave it out.

Sam's "Not a Romance" discussion had me giggling with my morning cup of tea. I share these feelings. All these feelings.

🌻

On a more serious note, even though I didn't know her well, I'd like to pause and acknowledge the passing of our blogger friend, Grace, who passed away this past week.
She fought hard and my thoughts are with her husband, kids and family.
Nicole pays a wonderful tribute. if you'd like to check it out.

It's a beautiful instrumental until 2.5min in then the singing starts... The lyrics are absolutely beautiful.

There were no watchings this week. I've been a TV-free zone.

    1. It was a fun end to the week. The beginning part less so. :)

  2. I hope your migraines get better and you find a better medicine. I am dreading returning to Dubai in a week because the temperature is already in 40s and it can go worse. I hope you have a great week ahead.

    1. I couldn't handle it. It reaches 30's and I genuinely feel like I won't survive, lol.

  3. I think a lot of people forget, that your part of Europe doesn't normally experience high temperatures, and air conditioners are not everywhere like they are (more or less) in the US. Hang in there. Cooler weather must be on the way. Glad my post made you giggle. I never do rants, but deception of that level is evil. I was eyeing When You Were Mine, and will be awaiting your thoughts on it.

    1. Evil indeed. There's just no need. I wonder if they deliberate mislabel some books (that could pass if you squint) as romance because they know it has such a large market?

  4. Oh, that safari park looks so fun, and you've got Koala's?! The coolest thing we got is sloths. which is pretty similar but not quite.

    1. Oh, I'd love to see a real live sloth! They're so cute!

  5. Six weeks of fun stuff and 3 day work weeks sounds great. Enjoy that! The Safari Park looks like fun.
Happy reading, I'm about to pick up a Christmas book myself. I keep seeing them around now.

    1. Thank you!

The Christmas invasion before summer is over is getting silly but... It is what it is when it comes to publishing schedules I guess. :)

  6. The adventure safari park sounds like so much fun and the koalas are adorable! That's a shame that the meds weren't right for you, but I understand what you mean about needing to be able to function. I hope the weather cools off a bit for you. I can't do heat if I don't have air conditioning to duck back into, so I know I'd be miserable with those temps too.

    1. The good news is the office is air conditioned... Shame I'm out more than in until September! It's sods law in action.

  7. I visited London 2 summers ago during a terrible heat wave and it was awful because there is no AC. I feel for you and hope it doesn't stay this way long!

    1. It's easing off thankfully! I couldn't handle another week like last!

  8. Have fun with your little dude. It's been hot here too. Tomorrow is going to be 111F (43c) but I try to stay indoors with the AC as much as possible on days like this.

    1. I'd die Mary. I really would. I couldn't function in that at all.

  9. Oh Nicci sorry to hear that the migraine meds weren't helping, I hope your GP can sort something else out sooner rather than later; they do like to give medication "a chance to work.

I am enjoying being off for the summer too, 4th September feels like a long time off so I'm enjoying not wearing a watch or having to do the dreaded school run. ;-) We enjoyed the lower temp on Friday by going to Hedge End shopping - eldest daughter is off to college and needs a 2in1 laptop/tablet.

I hope you have a great week - we've got more thunderstorms to look forward to, is Little Dude ok with them? Here's my Sunday Post

    1. Ah he's fine with thunderstorms as long as he's asleep when they start! Once he's out nothing wakes him.

I don't often go to Hedge End but I like the big Smyths toy shop there. :)

  11. Yay for 3-day workweeks! Hope you get your migraines sorted. I wish our heat wave would go away, I couldn't live without air conditioning, but it sounds like you don't suffer such high temps.

I'm halfway through Lies. I'll probably finish tonight. It's whacky and I'm not taking it seriously, even more so after reading your review, but it was a disappointment after hoping for more. Repeat was definitely better. :)

  12. Longleat sounds really fun! And that heat wave sounds tough. It's been hot here too on and off but the heat wave over in Europe has really been making headlines! Hope you get a cooldown soon!

So true about Grace. Just tragic.

Nice video- I like that song.

  13. That does seem like a late end of the school year, but yay summer! I couldn't stand all this heat without AC though, I can understand why everyone in the UK is complaining about it. Sorry about the disappointing books, and I hope you can get the migraine meds sorted out soon.

  16. Longleat Safari Park sounds delightful! I'm glad you're having fun during your young one's break. But I'm sorry the migraine meds didn't work out. I hope the doctors can come up with a better alternative.

It's so sad about Grace. I knew she was fighting breast cancer, but hadn't seen her last post about it coming back, so I was shocked when I heard about her death. My heart goes out to her children and husband.

  17. Yay for your son being on summer break and having three day workweeks! I hope this heat wave goes away for you all soon - I wouldn't be able to handle it without AC.

  18. I'm so sorry to hear that Lies was such a disappointment. I wish we could always avoid disappointing books.

Our normal temps are in the 90s during the summer but we have ac everywhere. I don't know how you do it without this!

    Have a good week!

  20. I certainly find that even favourite authors write something naff sometimes and it's soooo disappointing when that happens! I agree it has been an unbearable week here and Scotland didn't get to those high 30's. I have always wanted to cuddle a koala-they are just so cute!

  21. The Koala’s will be feeling right at home in the heat, but I’m sorry you are finding it so difficult. I hope it cools down soon and you and your son enjoy a fun summer break.

Wishing you a great reading week

  22. Enjoy your summer break with the kid! It looks like y'all have had a great start to it. I hope your migraines get better and you enjoy your reading this week!

  23. I saw your post from your Safari Adventure. It sounds like a fabulous place! We hold an annual pass to our zoo, so definitely something we'd enjoy. Plus such a fun variety of animals. Glad you get to enjoy some summer fun with your son. I'm so sad ours is ending! It is so sad about Grace from Rebel Mommy. She's been blogging as long as I have and will be missed. Have a wonderful week, and thanks for stopping by!

  24. I hope you'd get better meds for your migraine. It sucks when even the meds don't work and just make your situation worse. Your post of your safari adventure with your son was so fun to read though and I also had fun experiencing the safari through your pics.

    Feel better, Nicci <3

  25. Yay for summer Nicci! 3 day work weeks sound like heaven and getting to spend quality time having fun with your kiddo sounds wonderful! Great pics of Safari park. Wrapped Up in Christmas sounds like it'll be awesome! Who doesn't love a good Hallmark movie?!!! Happy Reading :)

  27. Hope you enjoy the summer!! It has been so ridiculously hot in so many places, which totally stinks. I hate the heat. I mean, I don't hate warmer temps but the heat can just... not exist, you know? Haha! I do hope you are feeling better re: the migraines and such. They are tough and I definitely know how you feel!

Still completely in shock about Grace. Our community really did lose someone special. I'm sad for her family and I hope they are doing as okay as they can be under these circumstances.

  28. The Safari park trip sounds real fun.
Hope the heat wave will be over soon.

  29. We also hit 38C here this week, I think even 40C in some parts of the country. It's never that warm here. I hope you have a great summer now that your kid is free from school. That safari park sounds like fun!

That's too bad about your migraine medicines, hopefully you can get something else instead.
