Weekly Update #69

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

We got some rain! For the first time in WEEKS we had some moisture and temperatures dropped to a nice level where I could sleep. Phew! That said, my relief is short-lived as the rain lasted less than two full days and another heatwave is supposed to hit on Monday but I'll take what I can get!

I've complained about migraines before but they've been so frequent and severe lately that I couldn't manage them anymore and had to visit the doc after a really bad one last Monday.
The good news is I now have medication that is supposed to prevent migraines rather than just treat them when they arrive. I don't know if it'll be effective or how I'll react yet (it can make you spaced and drowsy) but I'll see how it goes and I'm relieved that my doc is willing to work with me until we find something that works!

Beyond migraines, or maybe because of the migraines, I had a quiet week where I didn't do much.
I'm now counting down the days (4 school days!) until the summer holidays start and my temporary 3 day work weeks commence!
We have a lot of fun things and days out planned.
😊

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maud and Arland are a kick-ass duo and I loved this instalment of the Inn Keeper universe!

⭐⭐⭐

This was a low/no angst sweet read.
There wasn't a lot to it and you had to suspend belief a little but I liked it.

I pre-ordered this as soon as I could and was super excited to see it finally release onto my kindle!

These were both spotted on other book blogs this week - Stranded With the Billionaire was a recommendation from Anna at Herding Cats and Burning Soup. Puck Me Secretly was reviewed by Anne at Books of My Heart. - so I checked them out and decided to give them a read!

Nicole answers a bunch of This or That questions that makes me want to answer them too... (So, I'm gonna!)

I found a post about Blogging Burnout over at Cat on The Bookshelf that resonated a bit. Her solutions were a lot saner than my approach a few years back when I hit the wall and - metaphorically speaking - burned everything to the ground... But from the ashes Sunny Buzzy Books was born so there's a silver lining!

It's been a movie watchin' week!

First up was Spiderman: Far From Home, the movie which rounds off phase 3 of the MCU.
I really enjoyed it even though it kinda broke my heart.
I absolutely adore Tom Holland as the teenaged web-slinger and Jake Gyllenhaal was so good as Mysterio. Plus, he's a long term love of mine... 😍

Rock of Ages is a movie I love. I know it got a less than enthused reception when it released but I love the music and the movie just makes me happy. I stuck it on in the background this weekend while catching up on tasks and it was a lovely couple of hours.

Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse was a family watch and I must admit I was less than enthusiastic about it being the Friday night movie but it surprised me! It made me laugh, it was emotional, it was packed with action and it was really really fun!

So, I don't have a song this week. Instead, I'm sharing this video I saw on Facebook that had me giggling like a loon while eating my lunch yesterday.

Blitz: Lies by Kylie Scott
Can't Wait Wednesday: Brave The Tempest
Top Ten Tuesday: Autobuy Authors
Review: The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

Have a great week all!

  1. Fingers crossed that the medication works for you! My dad had minimal relief from his medication so I bought one of those fabric back braces from Amazon and that seems to have cut my dad's migraines down by two thirds. His migraines must have been coming off the pain is his neck and back but by straightening his posture and getting the nerve pathways stretched out, he only gets one a week rather than every day.

    1. That's worth considering. I've had a lot of back, neck and shoulder pain lately because of the way I sit at desks and the weight of my work bag. I wonder if they're related...

  2. That video was hilarious. Though, I am pretty good with English terms from all the English authors I read (thank you, Sophie Kinsella). I hope you have lots of luck with the new meds, and I am green with envy at your three day work week (four is the perfect length for me).

  3. I really hope that migraine medication works for you. I don't get migraines often thankfully, but they really are the worst.

    1. They are horrible. I'm used to them being severe but infrequent. At the moment, they're severe and coming at a rate of at least 1 a week. It's ridiculous. :(

  4. I took Topamax for a long time to prevent migraines and it was helpful, but i eventually gave up on it because it was making me feel all weird. Hopefully your medication is better! Our heatwave is suppose to end tonight. Thank goodness because we are melting here! Its been over 100 most afternoons.

  5. This must be the month to read Billionaire Romances. I'm lovin' it and will add the title you mentioned.

  6. I have Imigrain, which works about half the time. If you and your doctor can figure out the triggers (mine are hormone related) you’ll have a better chance of finding something that works for you. If your doctor hasn’t suggested it yet, keep a migraine diary, there are even app versions for your phone.

    Have a great reading week

    1. We've never been able to pin my triggers down. It seems to be combinations of various things that on their own don't bother me. :/

  7. I hope the medication helps you! I have not seen the Spiderman Movies yet but I really enjoy Rock of Ages. Here is my post https://paigesofbook.blogspot.com/2019/07/the-sunday-post-72119.html

  8. Oh, so sorry about the migraines! Those are a bitch! I hear you on the weather! We got some better temps over the weekend, but we're back over triple digits this week. Ugh! Summer is my least favorite season.

I'm waiting until the audio gets released for Sweep of the Blade. At least I hope they're doing and audio of it. I can't wait to read Maud and Arland's story! Glad to hear you loved it. I also bought a copy of Lies this morning when it released. I hope to read it quickly today. It sounds sooo good! :)

    1. Forgot to say, I loved Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse too! It was a total surprise. I've never watched Rock of Ages but I'm sure the music would be fun. :)

    2. Summer is my least favourite of the seasons too!
I think the Sweep of The Blade audio is going to be another month or so, isn't it? That seems to be a pattern.

I bought Lies too and I've started it. I'm about a quarter way through and I still don't know what to make of it, lol. It's fun though.

  9. So sorry about the migraines. I had them for a time and the doc gave me Imitrex for them but that medication made the top of my head burn like it was on fire so I had to stop taking it.

    1. This stuff is making me feel like a zombie so I'm going back to the doctor. No migraines would be nice but not at the cost of not feeling like a functional human being until the afternoon!

  12. Yay for cooler weather! We've had some storms go through that have cooled thing off too, and it's nice. It's been so hot! I hope the migraine meds help too!

3 day workweeks are the best.

That video is hilarious by the way! As an American I had no idea pacifiers were called dummies. :)

    1. Lol, that's one of the ones that I think the american version makes so much more sense! I mean, the thing's purpose is to pacify the baby... I've no idea why dummy came to be used here!

Glad to hear you have gotten rain. We expect rain next week.

  19. I really want to watch the new Spiderman movie too but we didn't have a day off together with my beau for a while now so we can't go to the cinema. Hopefully soon... I'm glad your migraine will be properly treated now, fingers crossed.

  25. Migraines are no fun! I've been dealing with them on and off for a week now, and my husband suffered from them frequently as well. May I ask what medication prevents them? Hopefully that helps so you don't have to suffer from them anymore. I'm glad you got a little bit of rain and cool down. Hopefully the heatwave doesn't last too long. I've been dying to see Spiderman Far From Home. I'm glad it was good! Sweep of the Blade looks awesome! Happy Reading Nicci!

  26. I hope you're feeling better from the migraine :( I hate migraines. Sometimes they're too strong for me and medications couldn't do a thing so I had to seek the doctor for help as well. And rain? How I hope weathers could be exchanged because I'd like to have some of that heatwave from all the rain that's been dropping here lately haha. I love the rain but it's getting too much and preventing me from having a life outside.

We've been having an AMAZING summer weather-wise but we've had a few warm nights lately and I'm sweltering. I'm used to having central A/C in FL so I'm spoiled and dying without it now.

I hope your migraines go away. They are awful!

  28. I have chronic migraines and just have found something to cut them in half (associated with another problem I have) and I hope you have even more success with your meds! Glad you have a doc that will work with you on it. We have had rain but as much as we need it, I'm not happy. I'm used to dry weather ... dry HOT weather... and not the humid hot we have been having lately. Pass the iced whatever! :D

  29. Migraines definitely don't sound fun at all. I hope this new stuff works for you without any bad side effects!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Migraines are the worst. I get a-typical migraines and have been on medication for a couple years now. I take one med daily, and then have a second one that I can take immediately if I feel a migraine coming on. Plus a nausea med to combat that part of the migraine when it happens. I hope the meds you've got work for you, these are no fun.
