Weekly Update #64

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

Oh this week... This week can bugger right off.

It started with broken guttering and torrential rain. Instead of the water going down the drain pipe, the run off water from 3 houses was pouring into my garden and because the ground was so sodden it wasn't draining away! It was just pooling there and I seriously thought it was going to flood my house. Thankfully, it didn't because the rain let up just long enough on Tuesday for it to absorb into the grass. Then, despite it raining on and off all week, it didn't get heavy enough to overwhelm the absorption capacity of the grass... But outside my window is more like a freaking swamp now. Fun!
We called the builder as this stuff is still covered by a warranty (new build perk!) and they're coming to fix it but not until the 24th! 😡
Fingers crossed things are okay until then!

Later in the week, I had another migraine and this one was an absolute doozy! I haven't felt that ill (over two days too!) in forever. It made last months back to back migraines feel like mild headaches.
I'm going to have to speak to the doc and the optician I think for this is getting incredibly annoying. My migraines are never usually this frequent. 😔
Two days lost... No reading, no work, no housework and no fun! Just sleeping or lying there like a zombie.

So, yeah... This week can go do one. Hopefully, this coming week is much better!
(I'd say it can't be worse but that would be jinxing it.)

Around the migraine, I continued the reading binge and it's been an Annette Marie week!!

Two Witches and A Whiskey - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Demon Magic and A Martini - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I cannot fangirl about this series enough! So much fun and utterly addictive.

Chase The Dark - ⭐⭐⭐
Bind The Soul - ⭐⭐⭐

Impatiently waiting for the next Guild Codex book, I decided to check out Annette Marie's back catalogue... So far, the Steel and Stone series is good but nowhere near as good as the Guild Codex.
Could be because it's mature YA? I don't know... But it hasn't fully clicked with me yet.

I'm finally going to try a Jenn Bennett!!

Freebies

Amelia Hutchins is a RARE 2020 author so on my to-read list. A freebie seemed a good place to start!

Stone Cold Magic has been on the wishlist for a while. I'm on a UF binge so the timing of this one is awesome.

Kindle Unlimited

My KU has been making itself worthwhile lately!
(About time too!)

The Romance Reader Book Club has launched an audio club!
One FREE audiobook a month from one of the club authors!
Well worth checking out if you love romance and audiobooks.
(Or even just like them a little bit...)

This week, I started watching How I Met Your Mother.

At the weekend, the kiddo and I watched some old Disney movies like The Sword and The Stone and Robin Hood. I don't know what made him want to but it was fun. They're so different from the Disney's now... And even the ones that came out when I was a kid like Aladin and The Little Mermaid!

This is a odd melody mix but it works and well... Dan could sing me the alphabet and I'd be a happy girl. 😀

Review: Carrie and The Silver Bullet by Carrie Vaughn
Mini Reviews: King Sized, Baby Mistake, Gavriil
Review: Grave Witch by Kalayna Price
Bookish Memes: Top Ten Tuesday, Can't Wait Wednesday, I Heart Characters, Book Blogger Hop

Reviews... It's going to be a week of reviews!
I need to catch up.

Have a great week all!

  2. Oh no Nicci!!! I am so sorry to hear about your headaches! I have had one for six days now so I can totally relate! I am going to the doctor on Tuesday because as you said I am fed up to feel like a zombie. I hope we both find why and that it will be easy to cure! Sending lots of love!

  3. So sorry to hear about all the water!! Thats awful! And migraines are horrible. Hopefully they can figure out a way to prevent them.
I love the old Sword in the Stone movie. I remember falling in love with it when I was a kid and I got strep throat. I was home sick for several days and watched it on repeat!!

  4. So sorry to hear about your rain troubles and your migraine! Ugh!! We've been having tons of rain here too. My youngest has been miserable because he just wants to hang out at the park and he's been stuck indoors.

  6. It seems to be the year of rain in many places. We haven't been too bad. I'm sorry about your migraine - my daughter is having a rough week with them too. I am also loving the Annette Marie books! Here's to a better week with lovely books!

  7. Migraines are the worst! My mother's had them for years. My grandfather, too. I'm hoping they skip me, although I had a really bad headache for about three days last week. I refuse to call it anything else (I think I'm in denial). At leas your gutter issues are going to be resolved! It's just unfortunate that it's going to take them so long. We had neighbors that built a gazebo in their backyard, and whenever it rained the overflow would fall from their roof into our yard.

Yay! Jenn Bennett! Love her. Alex, Approximately is one of the few I haven't read, so I'll be looking forward to your thoughts.

  8. I haven't written a Sunday Post this week but thought I'd still visit some friendly bloggers ;-)

Og goodness me what a pants week! I really feel for you, Luv. I'm glad you got some enjoyment from the Guild Codex books. I'm hoping to go to RARELondon in September and have picked up Playing with Monsters too. Don't know when I'll get around to reading it but I look forward to reading your thoughts.

I hope you have a better week this week and enjoy your reads. x

  9. Ugh, what a week. :( Thankfully the builders will fix up the flooding damage. That much is good. I hope you get some relief from the migraines. Seems like they're happening much too frequently. I really enjoyed Alex, Approximately and really want to read more from Jen Bennett.

  12. Hope you have a better week! And good luck with the gutter repairs. That can be frustrating when the water is just pouring down like that!

The Guild Codex books look awesome.

I like those old animateds. :)

  16. Migraines are so horrible! My husband gets them pretty frequently, and I know how debilitating they are. I hope the doctor is able to figure out what's causing them, and help you prevent them. House troubles are no fun. Good thing you have someone who can fix the gutters, so you don't have to worry about them flooding your house! I'm glad your enjoying the Annette Marie books. All of the Urban Fantasias you got look good. I hope you have a good migraine-free week Nicci!

  17. Ugh, that is ages to wait with a swamp out the back. We had a friend of a neighbour working on his roof and my dad got him to do a few quick repairs on our roof while he was there so that was lucky!

  18. Awwww Migraines are the worst! And you can't even read... that makes being in pain totally worse. I know a lady who has to stay in a really dark room when she has them. And it can take days for her. I love Annette Marie, I've got to try that new series!! ❤️ Hope this week is better for you Nicci

  19. I am glad to hear that they can come and fix it. I am sorry about all the rain and it doing that but at least you can get it fixed most of us can't. We are getting all that rain too! Or at least we were, it has let up some now thank god. We are in a nice hot spell and we are loving it.

My daughter graduated high school and that was a REALLY big thing in my house. That was weeks of things going on here and I felt like I was in this whirlwind with it and going to school myself, I just didn't have enough energy or time for anything.

I hope those migraines let up. My peak for them was when having them myself (and I do still get them about three times a year) I was taking birth control pills. I stopped the BC pill's, had a second baby about 3 years later after stopping the pill, then had a tubal. Since than the migraines have been fewer and fewer as the years have been growing father apart. I am happy that I don't suffer as much from those anymore and that I found my trigger - it was the pills. I hope you find something that helps with them. I couldn't do anything for a day or two with mine and it was terrible.

    Mary
