Weekly Update #62

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

This week has been a good week!

I had a two day work week due to public holidays and annual leave. My mum was visiting and the little dude was on half term from school so there were lots of walks in the New Forest, parks, swimming, movies, lego and general family shenanigans.

I won Sam's 6th Blogiversary giveaway and I never win things, so that was awesome, and I got a weekend ticket for RARE 2020 in Edinburgh!! Getting that ticket was one of the most stressful purchasing experiences ever. Early entry sold out almost as soon as the link went live and everything else was quickly unavailable but not showing as sold out so, like a truly demented bookworm, I sat and refreshed that page for over 20 minutes to finally snag one when someone failed to complete checkout. It may not be early entry but the full weekend is good enough! My first ever book convention... I have no idea what to expect but I'll worry about it closer to time!

A good reading week... All were review copies and two of them were a lot of fun! Unsuitable was a bit of a miss.

Freebie

I've heard this is a good one so it'd be rude not to have picked it up while it's free.

Paperback

The kindle edition of A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue has been £12.99 since it's release and I refuse to pay that for an ebook. So, when I saw it in my local bookstore on a buy one get one half price deal, I felt it was time to buy it for half the price of the kindle edition... I was quite pleased with myself until the kindle edition went on sale at £1.99 this weekend!!! ๐Ÿ˜‘ Nevermind... I at least have it now.

I also have the paperback of The Burning Maze (Trials of Apollo book 3 as I bought it as part of the deal mentioned above. I've yet to read the first two of this series but I buy them as they release on paperback so that when the series is complete, I'll be ready to binge read... Or, you know, when I finish The Blood of Olympus and need more of Rick Riordan's Olympians.

Saw this in one of the discount books stores and thought it sounded good.
Then I realised I had heard of it before and the reviews were mixed, to say the least! Guess I'll be finding out first hand, lol.

Anyone else going?!

Finished S1 of Lucifer and I'm going onto S2.
It is so funny...

Movie-wise we (re)watched The Crimes of Grindelwald, Bohemian Rhapsody, Avengers: Endgame, and The Phantom of The Opera.

I blame the author Katia Rose for my new obsession with this song...

  2. Yay for getting a ticket to your first book con! Have a great time. ๐Ÿ‘✨

I haven't seen The Crimes of Grindelwald, yet, I've been waiting for the library to get the DVD. Which reminds me that I need to check, again. It's good to know you thought it deserved a rewatch. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Have a wonderful week. ๐ŸŒž

  3. I hope you enjoy RARE! Congrats on winning the giveaway! I gotta love walking through the forest and parks. It's so relaxing.
The reviews for After are more negative than positive. I just read a review by Tracy from Corner folds and that decided for me I won't be picking it up.

    1. Some are quite brutal, lol. I'll read it anyway. I've bought it now.

  4. Binge reading is the best way for me to read a series. I like to read everything in order, and all at once. That is generally impossible if you are still waiting for the last four books to come out in print.

What a fun time you will have at your first book convention. And in Edinburgh! Wow.

    Enjoy your week!

    1. I live in the SW of England now but I grew up near Edinburgh and lived there for 7 years while at Uni so the location is less of a wow for me but I love that city with all my heart so it'll be great to go back.

  5. Ah... walks in the New Forest! I was born and brought up in Ringwood, so I know that part of the world well:). Glad you had such a good week - as it happens, I bought the DVD of the Crime of Grindlewald for the children as they stayed over during half term and watched it again with them. I enjoyed it more than I had in the cinema. Have a great week, Nicci:)

    1. I enjoyed it more the second time too!
Ringwood is so close to me but, oddly, we gravitate more towards Southampton or Salisbury for shopping and the like.

  6. Great to hear you won something. I won a hundred dollars at Bingo one time. It's funny-I get competitive even when I win something, like I make vows to change a habit in my life and so forth if I win.

  7. Congrats on the Tickets. It amazes me how fast they always sell out. Your walks sound wonderful. I need to take my kids to a hiking trail this summer for a bit of fresh air. They could use it.

Big Rock is awesome, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :)

Have a great week, Nicci! Happy Reading! xx

  9. Yay for short work weeks! And congratulations on your win and snagging the ticket to RARE. I hope you have a wonderful time, Nicci! I've been there before where I am refreshing constantly to get tickets or signed up for some event. It can be extremely nerve-wracking. I am glad you had a good reading week!

I've seen some of the first season of Lucifer and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It is a funny show.

I hope you have a great week, Nicci!

  14. It sounds like had an awesome week with your family! My son starts school this year, and I'm already crying about it. It's bittersweet, because I'm happy he's excited, but MY BABY. I'm used to having him home with me every day.

  15. I didn't realize RARE will be your first convention. Every more to celebrate then! I had grabbed Big Rock a while back (also free), and it sounds good. I have been wanting to try Blakely, since she is fairly popular. I hope we both like it.

  16. Congratulations on snagging that ticket!
I’ve read one or two of the Kitty series, but couldn’t get my hands on any more at the time (it wasn’t published here & this was pre ebook/Book Depository days) and completely forgot about the series til your review of it.

    Have a great reading week

  18. Ooh have fun at the book conference! I've never done that one, but I've been to others and they are fun. Yay for getting Gentlemen's Guide, but that's crazy the e-book dropped in price at the same time. Sheesh! It's a really good book though. :)

I need to watch Lucifer. I'm making my way through iZombie right now.

  21. How exciting about RARE! I want to go sometime. But I seem to enjoy the ComicCon type conventions more than the romance ones. I also have to plan ahead which authors I want to see. I find it hard to figure out what to have them sign because I buy everything digital. I want photos with them but I am not photogenic. lol

    Have a great week!
