This week was a sad week.
My husband's aunt died after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was such a sweet and kind woman, truly a good one, and she'll be very much missed.
Beyond that, we've had a very quiet week with nothing to report!

Only one... I'm back in a funny reading place and nothing much is sticking.
I've started 4 books this week! Only finished one - which was junk, fyi - and only finished it because it was short.
⭐⭐
This was a perfect example of a book battered out in a month* for the sake of publishing a book and making a buck. Weak plot, characters with no depth and poor writing.
I still finished all 189 pages of it though so shame on me.

Oh, how I love this cover!!!
An author I really enjoy (Karen Chance) has been dropped by her publishing house. 😭
On the plus side, she'll be self-publishing the remaining books in her series to finish it for her fans. 👏
In some AWESOME book news, I found out that Kim Harrison is returning to Rachel and the gang in American Demon! She's writing it now but she is returning to the Hollows!!! I could die from freakin' excitement. However, I'm also so nervous... Nothing bad can happen to Rachel and Trent. Nothing. They got their HEA epilogue dammit!

We watched Star Wars Ep VII for movie night on Friday.
Haven't watched much of anything else!
Another quiet week.

Book Blogger Hop: Do You Read Along With Audiobooks?

A book blitz or two and some blogger memes.
I hate it when I read a book that is highly disappointing. I rarely finish a bad book. Off it goes! Out with the bad, in with the good.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Thank you!
DeleteUgh I hate books that are that disappointing. I've finished a few books like that just because they are short. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's aunt. There just seems to be a cancer explosion at the moment which is worrying.
ReplyDeleteShe was a lovely woman so it's really sad. :(
DeleteSorry to hear about your husbands aunt. I lost an older aunt yesterday and she too was pretty great. I hope they both are hanging out being awesome together! :) ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteI had a book this week I wasn't a fan of either and read most of it but skimmed the rest. Just was't grabbing me like I wanted.
Sad about the author but also good that she plans to continue as a self pub. Sometimes that is the only way to go and her fans will follow.
I hope you have a great week, Nicci! Happy Reading!
Have a good week!
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your husband's aunt. Wishing your family peace during a difficult time.

DeleteI totally get your reading funk. Might I recommend "Dash and Lilly's Book of Dares." It reads fast and is darling. Not if that's your thing but it's worth a shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteOh Nicci I am so sorry to hear about your husband's aunt! My condolences. And I hate when they publish a book for the sake of respecting the planned schedule and it ends up being just bad!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sophie.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about your husband's aunt. As for the bad book - meh... sometimes we read what we need to read at a particular time. No shame in it:). I hope the coming week is an easier one. Take care, Nicci.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

DeleteSorry about your loss. "The Little Vintage Carousel by The Sea" has such a cute cover. It seems like a good read.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover. I'm going to get stuck into it when nice weather hits.
DeleteKU has made it easier to try out unknown authors. But, there are a lot of terrible books there too! Sometimes you get a real stinker! Sorry to hear about the death in the family. Hugs to all!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSo sorry to hear abut your husband's aunt.
ReplyDeleteI've never read that Kim Harrison series.
You should! It's awesome.

DeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose a close member of the family. *hugs*. As for your reading, don't force it if you're not feeling it. You have a lot going on, maybe your brain just needs to re-boot. :)
