Weekly Update #48

Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

This week was the strangest week.

Sickness hit again putting me off work for three days, the little dude off school for two and the professor off for one (although he should have stayed home for at least one other) but despite us all being ill it wasn't as miserable as it could have been.
Sure, being ill was miserable but being piled under the blankets with the family, cheesy movies on in the background? Kinda cozy. If we hadn't been ill it would have been a lovely way to spend a few days, lol.

Then, just as we were all getting back on our feet, I had a hospital appointment - which meant blood tests - and we had check-ups at the dentist.
This wouldn't have been anything to report usually but because we'd all been ill leaving the house to do the mundane things like the dentist seemed like a notable achievement. It took a lot of effort to get on with the day-to-day again as whatever bug we picked up leaves you feeling so fatigued you seriously debate shaving your head rather than having to wash, dry and brush your hair...

Anyways, we're all still super tired but feeling much better now.
We made it out to the cinema yesterday to see the new Lego movie in order to kick start the little dude's half-term break with some fun!

DNF

Well, this book was a hot mess. I got to 53% then gave up. It's not even that long a book...
The premise was good but the insta-lovey drama was too freaking much.
Seriously, a couple of hours total in a guys presence and she's heartbroken and unsure how she'll trust again. I almost strained my eyeballs from rolling them so much.

Book Club Freebie

I signed up for the Romance Read Book Club back in January and you basically get a book funnel link for a different book from a popular romance author each month to read.
I've heard of all of the featured authors but only a few have I actually read (Jennifer Armentrout, Katy Regnery, Penelope Ward being the few). I expected when the Jennifer Armentrout book came that it would be one I'd read before but it wasn't! I haven't read this series so this was a nice win.

On the tv front, I've been continuing my re-watch of The Musketeers.

As for movies we've watched: The Secret Life of Pets, The Lego Movie, and The Lego Movie 2.

We've also watched a whole load of Pokemon tv series and movies but I can't remember the names of those... They all blurb together into a big annoying mess.

  1. Sorry to hear that the professor and little dude were sick. My online SQL was cancelled on V-Day and the professor said our valentines day from him was homework instead, ha-ha. I've got a few Armentrout Books on my overdrive, I'll have to add this one.

  2. Aww sorry that everyone was sick. What a bummer! I have that JLA series but haven't read it yet. I swear I'm going to some day!

  3. Sorry you were all so sick. Being sick is bad but when you have to be normal again is so hard. Sick takes a lot out of you. We need sick days and recovery days, to get back to normal.

My kids have a break this week, I wish I could spend it with them.

I hope you have a wonderful week, Nicci! Happy Reading xx

  4. Well, the one good thing is you had it coordinated to be sick together. If you want to go with the silver lining? lol I forgot about the Lego movie. We want to see that but it'll probably have to be a DVD. Take it easy this week!

    1. To be fair, I think I could have happily waited for the DVD and after watching it, I'm wishing we did! However, the little dude LOVED it (and is still hyper over it) so maybe it was just me that thought it was on a bit 'meh'?

  5. Oh, no! We all had the sickness the week before last. I blame this awful yo-yo weather we've been having. I hope you guys bounce back quickly.

  7. Getting sick is the worst, and then blood tests and dental appointments on top of that?

Hope you have a better week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  8. OMG my son was sick last weekend, then my hubs followed from Monday to ...today and then it was my daughter from Thursday! I felt only "weird" for two hours and my immune system kicked back. Years ago we all were sick at the same time and spent our day cuddling under a blanket and wtaching TV :-) Anyway I hope next week will be better!

  9. I love Fall Out Boy. That entire album is good.
Sorry to hear that you all had the ick. Hope you are feeling better today.

    1. Oh I love that album! We all do. It's one of the few albums that I like every track and can listen to it on a loop. I'm so used to listening to the entire album, my brain expects Immortals to follow on as soon as Favourite Record ends, lol.

  13. Glad to hear you guys are feeling better! I always think that too when I'm sick and just watching TV or movies... like if I WASN'T sick this wouldn't be half bad lol!

I haven't seen any of the LEGO movies yet but they look fun.

  14. Oh, no! I can't believe everyone was sick. Here's to getting back to 100%! I have scored some great free books with those romance clubs. It's always great when you get one your haven't read yet.

  15. Oh no! I hope you're all feeling better! My brother really wants to see the new Lego movie too. I haven't even heard of Midnight Sins! I'll have to check it out!

  16. I'm glad you're all feeling better, and I hope you manage to bounce back to your normal selves soon! I always think being sick will be kind of nice because of the no work thing, but then I end being too sick to enjoy it, lol!

  17. I can totally relate to the sickness. It wore me out to even take a shower and get ready for the day for a few days after being well. So annoying! My kids have been begging to see the Lego 2 movie and I love Fall Out Boy. Looks like you've had some bad and good reading as well. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a lovely week!

  18. I just can't put up with any kind of romance angst in my books now. It leaves me wanting to scream 'get on with the story already!!!'

    1. I love my romance and I don't mind the angst but if there's going to be 'heartbreak' then you at least need time to fall in love and feel it, you know? A couple of fictional hours doesn't cut it. *shrugs*

  20. Too bad sickness had to spoil all your movie-watching/snuggling time, but I suppose it could be worse. :-)

  22. My kids have been super sick all week! It's been terrible. I have avoided it so far, and I can only hope my luck holds. I do not want to take care of sick kids while I'm also sick -- ugh. Nightmare situation. I hope you guys are feeling better, or start to feel better soon! I'm ready for our bug to pass.
