First full week back to work and all I did is eat work and sleep.
The weekend has been spent catching up on chores.
Long days and early to bed for very early starts have meant no reading.
We're almost two weeks into the new year and I still haven't finished a book!
I've no idea how a year can tilt so far sideways in the space of two weeks but fingers crossed this isn't a sign of how 2019 is going to continue!

I feel like I should hand in my bookworm card...
However!
I did make a start on the audiobook challenge. My goal was to listen to the little dude's Heroes of Olympus series over the course of 2019 and it's a good choice I think. The narrator doesn't get on my nerves and the story is really engaging. I've not only listened in the car on route to and home from work but I've sneaked the odd chapter while cooking and doing housework so I'm quite proud of myself! This just might work for breaking me out of my disconnection with audiobooks.
I'm actually glad to have 4+ hours of driving ahead of me on Monday for a meeting! ๐คฃ

A very poor showing this week... I'm still working to blog ahead!
Waiting on Wednesday: The Ruby Red Trilogy

Lots of rocking in corners fantasizing about future holidays?
I am finding it so hard to read as well. I did finish one book this week but being back at work has really knocked me off lol. Hope you have a great week and do lots of reading.
ReplyDeleteMegan @ reading away the days
I blame January. Everything was fine until January rolled around...
DeleteEverybody seems to be watching the show You at the moment, i really should check it out, there must be something in it.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post
It's twisted and wrong but addictive! I'd check it out. :)
DeleteYeah, that Sherrilyn Kenyon stuff is truly scary! I hope she'll win the lawsuit, and that she'll get healthy again!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you haven't had enough time for reading - good thing you enjoy the audio you're listening to!
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy listening!
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookworms
Me too... No one should be able to take decades of your work from you out of spite or entitlement. :(
DeleteI just read that about Sherrilyn. I haven't read her books but I know a lot of my friends have and love her. I feel awful about what her husband and that girl did. People are just evil.
ReplyDeleteI am going to give audio a go with year too. I want to see if I can finally enjoy it.
I hope you have a great week, Nicci! Happy Reading!
Happy reading Michelle!
DeleteYes... my reading has taken a hit, too. I think it's the time of year and that this week I was out 4 nights in a row. I hope the coming week is a better one for reading for both of us!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed!
DeleteHope you end up enjoying the audio book. I love listening on my daily commute but the narrator can definitely make it or break it. That Ruby Red trilogy has been on my TBR for years and I've yet to get to it. The Sherrilyn Kenyon drama is crazy and seems like it's right out of a novel. :(
ReplyDeleteTruth is stranger than fiction I guess!
DeleteI can't wait to read The Ruby Red trilogy but I'm waiting until I have time to binge read the three of them. :)
I've been in a bit of a reading slump, too. You have my sympathies! Here's hoping our reading picks up in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteThe Sherrilyn Kenyon thing is wild. I found a summary on Yahoo (which wasn't able to confirm any official investigation.) Assuming it's true, I feel so sorry for her! I haven't read her books, but I know she's a beloved author to many fans.
I blame it on January blues...
DeleteI just ove kindle deals you got yourself. I would like to read Dating Detox, but the rest of them too, except We Were On a Break because I already read that one.
ReplyDeleteI hope this audio book you're listening to will get you out of your reading slump.
I hope so too! I'd like to read some of the books I'm buying, lol.
DeleteI tried to read You...and then watched some of the show. I can't stand him...so I had to stop. LOL.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week and thanks for visiting my blog.
Lol, he is pretty insane! But I found it utterly bizarre how the crazy stalker guy was portrayed to be so likeable...
DeleteI did read what has been happening to Sherrilyn Kenyon and my heart just dropped when I read what she wrote. That sounds awful.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a chance to do some reading soon.
Me too. :(
DeleteMy house is a mess. I am thankfuI got the holiday decorations down before I got too sick. I hope the week ahead is easier on you and that you get to read!! I loved You on audiobook, but did not check out the Netflix series.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kimberly!
DeleteI wouldn't worry about the house being a mess... That can be fixed once you're feeling better!
I just heard about the Sherrilyn K stuff yesterday and was so shocked. I've never read her books, but that was a crazy story!
ReplyDeleteRight?! Poor woman...
DeleteI hope you'll get back to reading soon! But what is it about Sherrilyn? I am always missing the interesting stuff ???
ReplyDeleteHer husband is trying to claim copyright on multiple books/series and apparently her illness was related to poisoning... All very insane!
DeleteI just clicked over to read the news on Sherrilyn Kenyon. That's awful! I hope she prevails in court and gets proof about the poisoning.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the audiobook and your schedule lightens up!
Me too Rachel!
DeleteI haven't read anything either. *blogger/reader fail*
ReplyDeleteI have high hopes for the coming week though.
Karen @ For What It's Worth
I guess it's just one of those months? I'm sure it'll get better for both of us soon! :)
DeleteWtf is going on with Kenyon? I hadn't heard about that. It's like the plot of a book or tv movie or something! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Artemis Fowl series on audio? The narrator is so very awesome! My kids and I have listened to that series a couple of times. Great. Now I want to listen again. lol
I haven't read the Artemis Fowl books but a friend at work recommended them on audio too! Said the narrator was great, so that's the second recommendation! I think, from reading the blurbs, that they're something the little dude would enjoy too. :)
DeleteHope your reading week is good with this latest batch. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I really want to get my reading mojo back!
DeleteI hope you get some reading time soon. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks AJ!
DeleteSorry the reading is slow! I need to get back to watching You. I started it but never got back to it after the first two episodes. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace!
DeleteI hope you can find more time to read and just relax this year. Starting a new year is always a bit hectic I think. I've seen the first episode of YOU, and I want to watch the rest, but I want to read the book first.

This year is a thing of evil so far but I'm sure it'll improve...
DeleteGlad Heroes of Olympus is going well. I should try audiobooks again- I've struggled with 'em in the past. And I haven't read much this year either yet, other than graphic novels.
ReplyDeleteI need to start watching YOU as it sounds really good!
I struggle too but I'm really enjoying this one so maybe I've turned a corner?
DeleteI think an engaging story with a good narrator may be key... And finding somewhere you can just listen. That's why I listen in the car while commuting. I'm by myself and all I have to do is drive and listen. :)
I hadn't heard about the Kenyon story so I had to go and look it up. Wow that is so shocking! I hope your reading gets back on track soon. I'd like to get a few more favourites on audio cd if I could find them cheap!
ReplyDeleteThey are expensive!
DeleteI'm listening to my kid's books on audio, lol. I figured I'd try on his books because I've always failed at audiobooks but he loves them and has loads I want to read... That way if I couldn't get into it, I hadn't lost anything because he's listened to it.
I subscribe to audible (£7.99 a month) and he gets 1 free read a month that you get to keep. It works out much cheaper than buying them at cost. Only problem is he is listening more and more and burning through his credits before the next is available so I'm now looking at bulk buying credits which work out about £5 an audio which isn't bad at all.
Sorry to hear you haven't been able to read. I hope this week will be better. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard about Kenyon.. That's crazy!
Have a great week and happy reading!
Thanks Maureen!
DeleteSorry your year is starting out crazy, but maybe this will be an in-like-a-lion-out-like-a-lamb thing. I have had We Were on a Break for a while. You just reminded me I need to read it. One thing that's important with an audiobook is that the narrator doesn't get on your nerves. Glad to hear you are enjoying your foray into audiobooks.
ReplyDeleteI really hope so Sam!
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that your year is off to a crazy start. Hopefully it will calm down soon so you can relax and read more. I'm trying to read more audiobooks this year too and am really loving listening to them in the car and while doing chores.
ReplyDeleteThe car is the only place I can settle into an audiobook but I'm going to attempt one with the ironing next!
DeleteNEVER hand in your bookworm card! You are n amazing bookworm Nicci. :)
ReplyDeleteWe all have busy times during the year where we can't read as much as we usually do. I go weeks without reading in spring and fall that's why I call them springgedon and Fallcalypsis :)
I used to feel disconnected with audiobooks as well and now they are my savers! That's all I do now because I'm too tired to read. so I'm glad you took that challenge! Good luck!
Lol, I like that! Springgedon and Fallcalypsis ๐
DeleteGood luck with fitting in more books with audiobooks. I have not had a disconnect with audio I just keep integrating it more into my life. Hopefully it will work for you. I hope you get some regular reading. I hope things get back to an easier routine for you soon. Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteThanks Anne!
DeleteIt has been really hard for me to get some reading in. I hope you find the time with being back to work. I am back to school and find I have the same problem.
ReplyDeleteMary
Here's hoping the rest of the year is better!
