Firstly, happy New Year all!
Secondly, what a freaking week this has been!
As I quickly type this up this fine Sunday morning, I desperately just want to go back to bed, pull the covers over my head, and nap for another week. It's been so stressful.
On New Year's Eve, my mum woke up with one side of her face completely drooping, slurred speech, vision problems in one eye... Immediately, I thought stroke but she didn't exhibit any other weakness, she wasn't unbalanced or confused so I hoped it was just a nerve issue but phoned an ambulance anyway as you don't wait around with that stuff. If it was a stroke, who knows how many hours it'd been since the event (as she went to bed normal and woke up like that) and every hour after the occurrence affects recovery. Anyway, the ambulance came, took her to the hospital and after many tests, scans and doctors she was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy (nerve issue) and she was discharged with a load of steroids and eye ointments.
Phew! But still sucky.
We spent new years eve night at home - as we'd planned to anyway - but it was a far different evening than usual as she tried to work out how to eat/drink when she only had control of one side of her face. It was heartbreaking to watch over the next couple of days but she will heal. It just takes time. She went home on Wednesday and it's so frustrating not being close enough to help out but my aunt is popping round and taking her out (as she can't drive at the moment).
The other crappy news from this week as that it was back to work on Thursday despite the little dude being on school holiday until the following Tuesday.
Being back to work was very blah but I'm sure this week will be better as normalcy fully descends on all rather than just a few.
My hope for this week is to settle back into a normal rhythm without drama and finish a book! I haven't managed to clock up my first read of this year and it feels a little bit sad.
Plus, I have an ARC review to post tomorrow so I need to finish that one today... Sigh.
Some of my new year's blog resolutions are fewer events, less review books, more doing whatever I want and more blogging ahead!
Kulti is a Mariana Zapata I haven't read and when I saw it on another bloggers Best of 2018 list, I decided it was time I changed that!
Shades of Wicked - I have so much to catch up on with Jeaniene Frost's books but when I saw this was 99p - and the first in a new series even if the character has featured in others - I had to grab it!
Drakon's Promise - Paranormal Romance, Dragons... Freebie. I don't know when I'll read it but it sounds interesting for when that particular mood strikes.
So, I found this series via fan-videos made from the movie adaptations on Youtube.
Yeah, there are German movies of the books. They look pretty cool...Anyway.
The series was written originally in German so the books are translated versions as my German may be enough to get me by wandering around Berlin but it's not good enough to read a book.
They're YA, fantasy, focused around time travel.
I ADORE the covers and am pretty excited to see whether the books like up to the tingly excited feeling the movie clips and covers give me!
We're less than a full week into the new year and I'm already despairing at some of the stuff happening in book land. Subjective opinion pieces assassinating the character of Jennifer L. Armentrout, cover models going on 'fat people are disgusting' rants... Really makes you feel cheerful and happy to be a part of the community. 🙄
Oh! And lets not pass over this nugget from Pottermore...
The video is absolutely random but the song is awesome.
