I waited 18 months for this book to release, bought it on release day, brought it home and put it next to the others on the bookshelf. I couldn't bring myself to read it. I know I'll take an emotional battering with this book and I'm just not ready.
It was all anybody spoke about last January and it continually cropped up throughout the year. I really wanted to read it, and I bought it when it was on a sale, but I never bothered reading it. I don't know if it was because by the time I bought it, the burning urge to read it had passed, or if it was reading the feedback of so many others on how it's quite a slow and difficult read with characters who are challenging but I just never got into the mood for it.
That said, I still want to read it and now that book two is available, I'm more likely to do so.

I bought this on a 99p sale. I heard so many good things. I love the cover and the blurb. But, the mood just never struck. Hopefully, I'll get to it this year.
I love urban fantasy and this sounds so awesome but, once again, I've heard things that make me hesitate. I know I will read it, I just have to be ready for it. Since I don't own this already, I imagine I'll wait until the next book in the series releases before going for it.
All the love for this book has made it one I absolutely need to read. The need built every time I saw another awesome review for it.
The thing that stopped me? The price!
It's over £12 for a kindle version... That's insane. Seriously, £12.99 for kindle. £6.99 for the paperback. Where is the logic in that?!
I fan-girl about Ilona Andrews every chance I get. I love their characters, their writing, the worlds they create and they have very little published that I've left to read.
The Hidden Legacy series, is awesome and I was so excited it was continuing. I pre-ordered this immediately and waited months and months for it to hit my kindle... Then it landed on my birthday and I never read it.
I blame moving house, planning a wedding, and having the plague throughout most of December.
I love the cover. I love the blurb. Once again, I own the book. I have no reason for having not read it. I just haven't.
I started reading it then got caught up in the chaos that was my life Sept-December and never finished it. I really need to read this one this year... I was really really enjoying it when I stopped, plus - shudders in horror - it was an ARC.
*hangs head in blogger shame*
I've wanted to read a Lauren Blakely novel for a while and this sounded like it'd be so much fun so I bought it... And didn't read it. Again, no reason, just haven't.
NA, Urban Fantasy. Awesome blurb. Great word of mouth. Bought it (obviously), didn't read it.

However!
I solemnly swear to read all of the above this year and be better about collecting books I really want to read and then not actually reading them.

What about you? What did you not get around to reading last year?
I have the same problem of buying books and then not always reading them very soon (or at all). And I understand what you're saying about the price of some of these Kindle books. I have to wait for a sale, find it at the library or not read it.
ReplyDeleteI have some of the books on your list--Diamond Fire, The Cruel Prince, Phoenix Unbound--and haven't read them though they didn't make my list since I could have had a list of 50 books...lol!
I had more than this on the list too. I just picked the ones I'm most likely to prioritize this year. We wouldn't be bookworms if out TBRs weren't a bit of a disgrace! π
DeleteI'm hoping to read To Kill a Kingdom this year as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Fingers crossed it's as good as they say!
DeleteI'm pretty proud of how well I did with reading last year but there are always a dozen or so books that I didn't get too or wish I read.
ReplyDeleteIf you're still interested in them you'll get to them eventually. π
DeleteI did read two and loved them. I need to try Holly Black!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I haven't read anything of hers before.
DeleteThe only one I read from your list was Diamond Fire.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to read that soon.
DeleteI totally feel you on Kingdom of Ash. I decided to make it my first book of 2019 and it was such an emotional rollercoaster for me. To Kill a Kingdom is one I keep meaning to read also. I hope you have a chance to check out all of these books this year. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThe Cruel Prince is on so many lists, and mine is one of them haha! I've been wanting to read it for a while- just have to make the time I guess!
ReplyDeleteThis year is the year... We'll get there. π
DeleteI need to read KoA and ToD. The time commitment is daunting. I hope to read Tinfoil Hearts at some point. Prescott makes me laugh, and I like laughing.
ReplyDeleteThe time commitment is something... I also have 3 Cassandra Clare to read now Quuen of Air and Darkness has released. π¬
DeleteI've seen The Cruel Prince on a lot of blogger's list. Hope you can read some of these this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks, me too
DeleteYou've got some great books on your list. I hope you're able to get to them this year. I'm hoping to try my first Ilona Andrews books. I keep hearing such great things about them.
ReplyDeleteThey're my favourites. I hope you do give them a try!
DeleteGlad I'm not the only one who waits anxiously for a book, buys it, and then lets it sit on a shelf. It's a sickness! Oh, and I have The Darkest Star ARC too, and I still haven't read it. I have to hang my head in shame with you.
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
A definite sickness. π
DeleteOh wow. These are some great books. I have a few of them on my shelves too. lol. Hope you get to enjoy them in 2019.
ReplyDeleteThanks, you too!
DeleteThere were a ton of books I wanted to get to last year but the reading slumps put paid to getting some of them done!
ReplyDeleteMy year has started with a slump so I've already got catching up to do... π
DeleteI really loved Gentleman's Guide!! I hope you get a chance to read it soon, but wow, that IS a high price for an e-book.

It's insane. I keep watching for it to go down... Book 2 isn't that high so I don't know what gives!
DeleteWoww that is a LOT for an ebook. I converted it out of sheer curiosity and am now horrified, what even!? Anyway, I hope to read it too! And I feel like one day maybe I will finish the ToG series? We'll see hahah. I liked To Kill a Kingdom, I hope you do too! And I hope you end up reading (and enjoying!) all of these soon!
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of The Darkest Star. π✨
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to The Poppy War, so that's pretty near the top of my list. π
I hope you love to Kill a Kingdom as much as I did if you get to it! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely read it this year.
