Weekly Update #39

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

I thought, after my last Sunday Post, two weeks ago, that the crazy was calming down and I'd be getting back to life and blogging as normal. Instead, my little dude fell ill and then I fell ill again.
It has sucked.
I'm still not fully recovered and I'm grumpy, although this weekend I was well enough to actually get out the house and do stuff - like buy a Christmas tree - so there is light on the horizon!

One thing I've really learned in the past month is that I need to blog ahead! Blogging ahead would have kept the blog ticking over while I was out of commission instead of it sitting there all neglected and unloved.

The one plus of all the lurgy is that I've watched lots more cheesy Christmas movies on Netflix, and finished setting up all the things for my wedding which is now less than two weeks away.
I'm happy that I've managed that much in between feeling like I was dying!

The past two weeks I've read a few books but not as many as I wanted to and all but one of them were re-reads!

I loved Transcendence back when it released (4 years ago! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ) so when I found out there was a novella from Beh's pov, I was all in.
And then I read Luffs and I was all wtf?!
It's not Transcendence from Beh's pov. It's her pov in a few scenes of Transcendence and while it was ok - if a bit disjointed - it was not worth what it cost.
The silver lining was that it made me want to read Transcendence again, which I did, and I enjoyed it once more.

From Lukov With Love was my comfort read when I was ill and it was amazing as the first couple of times I read it. I just adore it and can't rant enough about all the reasons I adore it.

As for re-reading Legend... I'm just going to say it. It's my favourite in the Real series. I loved Maverick far more than Remy and I'm gutted that we don't get more of him and Reece.

An unusual fortnight in that of the 5 books I purchased, 4 of them were paperbacks!

I got a Hush Hush boxset bargain this weekend! All 4 paperbacks for only £10, so I snapped them up. I've wanted to read this series for ages.

Queen of Air and Darkness was an insta-buy even though I haven't read the first two. I'm not a fan of the cliffhangers so I've been buying each book in the series as it released but waiting until the final one before beginning. This series will be an early 2019 read for me, I think.

Luffs... Well, I've spoken about that above.

I'm sorry. It's been, like, a month since I've properly been around the blogs!
I'll catch up again. At this rate, it might be Christmas by the time I manage it but I will!

I'm joining in on Top Ten Tuesday for the freebie topic this week and I have a cover reveal on the 12th for book 3 of a series that I adore.
Nothing else is planned but I'm hoping to get a couple more posts up.

Have a great week all!

  1. Sorry to hear that you and the little dude were under the weather. I hope you both are back to 100% soon. My distaste for novellas came from having too many be exactly what you described. I have read a few good ones recently, but I only did, because they were free. Blogging ahead. That would be cool. I usually have my reviews written, because I write them as I finish the books, but every weekend I have to do my discussion post, my Sunday Post, CWW, and TTT. So, I am seldom ahead. But it is great, in theory.

    1. I never manage it but after the past few weeks I'm determined to get a few posts in the bank, just in case!

  2. Sorry you've been sick! I'm terrible about blogging ahead too. Every once in a while I'll have one post ready to go, but seldom more than that.

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

    1. That's just like me but I'm making a bit push for it in the coming year.

  3. I really hope you feel much better soon and have a lovely wedding and holiday. Take care of yourself and find some moments to relax and read. Anne - Books of My Heart

  4. I hope you and the little dude feel better soon. I used to be really good at blogging ahead, but now I’m lucky if I have a week of posts scheduled. Enjoy your new books, and have a great week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  5. I hope you and your son are feeling better. Being sick is just the worst. I definitely need to do better with blogging ahead. I do it, and then I'm behind again, and on and on. haha

    1. I bet that'll be me. I never get more than 6 scheduled before I lose steam, lol, but I'm really going to try this time!

  6. Oh wow you're getting married in two weeks! Hope you have a great one (and Christmas too)! And that you feel better!

Queen if Air and Darkness looks awesome.

    1. I am! It's so weird. We've been together forever, lol. It's a super small, chilled, wedding though so I'm not too intimidated. :)

  7. Oh no, more sickness! You just can't get a break. :(
Eeek! I didn't realize you were getting married! (where have I been?) So exciting! Congratulations in advance. :) Novellas can be so hit or miss. Sometimes they truly add to the story. Other times... yeah, not so much. I've yet to read anything by Zapata but definitely want to try something by her.

    1. Zapata has a new book inbound soon! She's in the final stages of editing and is one of those authors that kinda just springs it on you. I've been stalking her since I found out waiting but I'm thinking it's going to be a Christmas treat at this rate.

The wedding was easy to miss as I haven't mentioned it much, lol. We've been so busy with the move that it's taken a complete backseat to everything. It's going to be super small, non-traditional, and chilled.

  8. That's the reason I blog ahead-to cover periods of illness or when I just feel I need a few days rest. It's easier to stay ahead than getting ahead in the first place! At the moment I'm trying to get ahead into January as I plan to watch a lot of dvds and sport over the coming weeks!

Don't worry too much about catching up with everyone and stressing yourself out! You'll get there in your own time!

  9. I hope you stay healthy from now on, and enjoy the holidays. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

    1. Me too! I'm all illnessed out! I want to kick back and properly enjoy Christmas now.

  10. I hope you feel better, especially since your wedding is only two weeks away!

Sorry Luffs wasn't all you hoped for. I enjoyed getting back into their world and I also did a re-read of Transcendence right after finishing the novella. Loved it all over again like you. I really enjoyed From Lukov With Love, but The Wall of Winnipeg and Me is still my favorite Zapata. I can't wait for her newest which is supposed to come out any day now.

    1. Oh I loved The Wall of Winnipeg! I've re-read that one this year too. It was my first Zapata book and I've been stalking amazon impatiently waiting for the new one. Hopefully, it'll be a nice little Christmas treat for us all! :)

  11. Darn on feeling poorly again. Grrrr. We have a sick herd baby, too. December has been a bit rude so far, yeah? Blogging ahead has saved my blog. Honestly I do 90% of my blogging during the 3 Blog Ahead events (2 months total) that I host. Then don't blog except for ones you can't plan ahead until the next one rolls around. lol
