2019 Reading Challenge Sign Ups!

Ah, December...  One of those lovely months where you look back on what you've done this year while simultaneously looking forward to what you want to do next year.
This year, I participated in numerous blogging challenges and, for the most part, failed.
I'm determined that 2019 will be different!
As such, I've signed up for challenges that should be perfectly do-able even with my mood-reader tendencies. Maybe, I should have chosen some that would be more challenging but... I'm throwing myself a bone here!

So, here are the reading challenges I'm participating in in 2019!

This one is a new one for me and since I don't usually read royal books, but have a few I want to read, I'm in!

The Challenge:
Read books that have a royal theme.

Books that center around anyone with a royal title (Prince, Princess, Queen, Duke, etc.), knights, castles, kingdoms, or heroic quests.

My target level is: Duchess (10-12 books)

To check out the rules, and/or sign up, visit She's Got Book On Her Mind!

I took part in this one this year but I failed at it miserably. This year, I'm going to succeed!

The Challenge:
There's a word each month and any time during the month you can blog about that word.
In any way you want. Review, recipe, photos, stories, etc.

For more info, and/or to sign up, go visit The Herd Presents!

Oh, I like a good bad boy... So this may not be much of a challenge but I'm going for it anyway!

The Challenge:
Read books about the bad boy!
MC members, Streetfighters, MMA stars, Rock Stars... You get the picture!

My target level is number 2: Engaged To The Bad Boy (10-15 books)

For more info, or to sign up, hop over to The Delighted Reader!

My backlist is extensive. I want to whittle it down so this Beat The Backlist challenge should help motivate me to do it!

The Challenge:
This reading challenge is all about knocking off those older books from your to-read list. Any genre, any format, any length.

I'm going to start knocking books off my Beat The Backlist 2019 shelf! (All pre-2019 of course!)

My target is 60 books!

2019 Audible Challenge

Ok. I did it. I signed up for an audiobook challenge.
No matter how many times I try - and fail - to like audiobooks, I seem incapable of just saying no and backing away from them.

I'm going to go easy on myself and aim for the rank of Newbie (1-5 audiobooks) as that will allow me to listen to the little dude's Heroes of Olympus series. He loved them and in the snippets I caught the narrator didn't seem to be too bad...

January Update!

  1. Good luck with all your challenges! I didn’t take part in any this year, other than the usual GoodReads challenge, and will probably do the same next year. I took imy reading back to basics this year and loved it - no challenges, fewer blog tour, fewer arcs. Just reading what I want to read, when I want to read it, with zero rules or pressure. It’s actually been fun. I have two arcs remaining and it’ll likely be a looong time before I request another.

    1. I'm craving some simplicity too. For me, that means fewer reveals, blitzes and tours next year. I'll be cutting arcs down to a minimum too.
The challenges, however, I look at as motivators. Especially when aimed at tackling my back list which is a personal challenge for me. 🙂

  2. I did Beat the Backlist this year, and I kind of stopped keeping track BUT I still feel like I read a lot of older books...not necessarily a ton that I already owned, but still a lot of older titles. LOL For 2019, I really want to focus more on the books that I own and just never had time to read! Good luck with your challenges. Oh! I want to do Blog All About It as well. I did fine for a few months and then I kept forgetting, so I just need to blog ahead on those or something.

    1. That's what I'm thinking Lauren! I'm going to blog ahead as much as possible next year. 🙂

  3. I always tend to fail. I do plan on doing something different next year so I'll complete them all. I plan on doing the Beat the Backlist challenge as well since it is relatively simple. I made it so last year I would read only books that have been on my list for a long time. Not this time around! If I added it and its an older read I'm counting it!
Thanks for joining the Reading Royal Challenge!

    1. I'm looking forward to it!

I 100% agree that older titles purchased next year still count towards beat the backlist... It's a backlist! 🙂

  4. These are fun! I saw the Royal and Bad Boy one around. I am thinking of doing those.

    1. Yeay! They're good ones.

I love bad boys and really want to read some royal books (like Emma Chase's series) so they're great for me.

  5. Good luck with your challenges.
I won't be doing any officially, but I will read most of back listed titles in 2019.
Blog all about it challenge sounds pretty interesting.

    1. I like how it helps you spread your wings into other topics every now and again.

  6. The Royal one is interesting. I plan on catching up with my Tudor fiction and monarchy non fiction the UK Royal Family and there aren't any restrictive rules so I might join this one.

    1. Yep, those would all count as it's Royalty.
I love how any one could do the royal one...
      Read historical romance? It works.
Read contemporary romance? It could work.
      Historical non-fiction? Works.
      High fantasy? Probably work.

  7. Good luck with all of your challenges. I'm only doing two, one of them my own haha.

  8. Yay, so glad to have you join our Bad Boys Challenge, Nicci! I'm with you on Blog All About It and Audio, too!

  9. So glad to have you join us for the Audiobook Challenge. I hope you find some great listens. Good luck on all of your challenges. Happy New Year.
