Book Blogger Hop: Do you take notes about the book you are reading as you read?

About The Meme
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer's permission, it was relaunched by The Coffee Addicted Writer on February 15, 2013.

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday.
There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Do you take notes about the book you are reading as you read?

Nope!
I used to but it just got in the way of actually reading the book so I stopped.
I found it jarring and it was causing a disconnect between me and the book.
I know that I blog about books, and post reviews, but I'm not a professional reader.
I'm a recreational one who shares her thoughts.
I care more about the impression a book left on me and whether I was entertained than critically analyzing a text page by page...
I limit myself to just highlighting quotes as I read now and then writing a rough review once I'm finished which I'll spiff up a bit later before posting.

  1. I'd feel jarred out of the story trying to take notes regularly too I think. Hope you have a great weekend. - Katie

  2. Fair point. I need to start, but it's more about the fact that I have been half assing some of my reviews lately and I feel just jotting down a few thoughts here and there will help keep me on task. ^^;

I do prefer impression reviews over point by point ones, so that's something to consider (for myself, not you, lol).

  3. I hate when taking notes takes you out of it! I use post it flags for situations like that :)

  4. I highlight a lot when I read (on my kindle), but I will jot down some notes when I read at home. I keep a notepad right next to my reading chair. It helps me, when I figure out the focus of my review or when I make some sort of great connection.

  5. That's pretty much what I do too. Highlight a lot and if I have a really important point to make I put a note on the highlight but that's it. Everything else comes when I draft my review while going through the highlights.
I used to write down notes too but like you I found it jarring!

  6. If it's a book that I'm reviewing then yes. I take notes as I read the book.

  7. Yeah, there's really no way I could take notes while reading. I think it would be distracting too. Every now and then I take photos of quotes in physical books though so I have it for later.

  8. I highlight on my Kindle and use post-it notes. If I glance at the page it usually comes back to me so I don't need to write notes. It is too distracting.

  9. I agree. Typically I'm so involved in what I'm reading that it never occurs to me to take notes. When I write my reviews that an emotional burst of feeling and I kind of like them that way. Great review. Thanks for posting.
