Weekly Update #14

Welcome!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer

It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!

I had a nice super chilled week which, after the absolute cluster of the last couple of weeks, was very needed. The little dude was off with his grandad for the half-term break from school so it was just me and the professor for the majority of the week and it was nice just being the two of us for a little while despite the fact we missed the chaos the little human tornado wreaks.
We picked the little dude up on Saturday and marked the end of his school holiday with a trip up to Staffordshire to go to Alton Towers theme park.
It's a longish drive from where we are (4 hours) and we drove up and back again in the same day which was exhausting but so worth it. We had a great time and their new ride - the Wickerman - was awesome and the little dude was so excited to be tall enough to ride their latest thrill ride for a lot of the 'big' rides at Alton Towers are still out of his reach.

Starting at top left: The Wickerman, Alton Towers Manor (a gorgeous ruin in the middle of the theme park), the Rollercoaster Restaurant where your food is delivered to your table via the 'rollercoasters' throughout the restaurant.

I've had a really slow reading week.
I only read one!

Lingus by Mariana Zapata

⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

This was Mariana Zapata's first novel and it shows.
It's funny, awkward and a faster burn than her other books. It's also a little shorter, I think... However, it's raw and doesn't quite have the magic that her later books have.
I still enjoyed it, I just expected something more, something different, to what it was.
*Shrugs*

Nothing!
I bought nothing, borrowed nothing and gained 0 ARCs...

I requested Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews on netgalley but I haven't got a response so doubt I'll get one.
😭
It doesn't matter. I have it pre-ordered and I'll read it at the end of the month when it releases but still... I'm impatient! I'd happily read it early and STILL buy it with my pre-order.
Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

I haven't been visiting much this week, nor posting much.
I needed a reset.
I've had so much going on that's taxed my brain I just needed to switch off.
I hope to get back on it this week.

I've done a lot of watching this week!
Let's see...
I caught up on The Big Bang Theory and loved Amy and Sheldon's wedding!

I started on S3 of The 100 and I'm already a nervous wreck for what this season will bring.

I started on S3 of The Flash (up to ep. 7) with the professor and I'm loving it.
It's so easy for me to not pay attention to this show but when I actually sit and watch it I'm hooked!

I had a kick of nostalgia and watched The Mighty Ducks movies (1-3) on the Disney Life app we've recently signed up for and I couldn't stop laughing. I ADORED those movies when I was a kid and even though I'm an adult, I'm still loving them.

We're currently debating going to see Solo and I have a trip to the cinema with the girls from work to see Book Club this week.
It looks like it'll be so funny... If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the trailer.

Blitz: Part-Time Lover by Lauren Blakely
Giveaway Hop: Beach Reads
Blitz: The Boyfriend Experience by JA Huss

I have a blitz on Monday by a new to me author that I think sounds awesome.
I have an excerpt on Wednesday for an upcoming book by an author I adore, and on Friday I'll be joining the Book Blogger Hop Meme to discuss what author I've read most in the last two years... I fear the answer is painfully obvious if you scroll through my reviews, but oh well!

Behind!
I'm behind on all and I'm trying not to care because reading is fun not stressful...

Have a great week all!

    1. Thanks Jenea! I can't wait to catch up on the 100! I LOVE Clarke and Bellamy. I know in the books they end up together but I'm told it isn't so in the tv show? I don't want to believe that with the chemistry of the actors!

  4. That roller coaster restaurant looks so cool! I've always wanted to go to one of those conveyor belt restaurants, but this takes it to a whole new level.

    1. It's nuts! The food is delivered down the roller coaster in metal pots with sealed lids and you have to turn a table to bring it around to your seat then dish it up onto your plate. They even send the drinks down like that and you have a bottle opener to sort yourself out, lol.
The only exception is hot drinks. Those they carry over. :)

  5. I haven't been around much because of a stomach bug. I didn't read anything this week so far.

  7. The Wicker Man as in, based on the horror film?? I absolutely love that movie but I don't know that my childhood self would have wanted to go on a ride about it πŸ˜‚ Kudos to your little man! Hope you have a good week :)

  8. That rollercoaster delivery at that restaurant certainly looks unique! And fun! What an awesome place. And The 100 is such an awesome show.

I'm looking forward to seeing Solo, and I've heard Book Club is really good!

    1. It's interesting, for sure! Menu selection is limited, I guess for obvious reasons, but worth doing at least once. :)

  9. I feel the exact same way about Ilona Andrews. I both pre-ordered Iron and Magic and was fortunate enough to get the eARC. I read it about an hour after it hit my Kindle. Amazing. Anne - Books of My Heart

That trip looks like a lot of fun.

I liked Amy and Sheldon's wedding too. It was so them.

    1. I tend to binge watch it. The episodes are so short that a couple of hours an evening for a few evenings and it's done.

  13. 8 hours driving in one day IS exhausting, but that park sounds fun! And ahhh that restaurant sounds awesome. I really want my food to be delivered by rollercoaster things lol. I've been thinking of starting The 100 since I've heard so much about it and need something else to watch now that I've caught up on Peaky Blinders.

    1. I haven't watched Peaky Blinders but I am a fan of Cillian Murphy so should probably add it to the watch list!
