Kindle Unlimited Update - Quarter 1
Back in January, I wrote about how I was placing myself on a book buying embargo and using Kindle Unlimited to control my book budget until we'd completed our mission and bought our house. As it's been 3 months since I started at the beginning of January - and seeing as I still haven't completed on my house - I thought I'd give an update on how it's going!
Kindle Unlimited costs me £7.99 month.
Over the past three months, I have read the following books on KU and I noted what each would have cost if I'd bought them instead of borrowing via Kindle Unlimited...
Legacy by LJ Swallow £0.99
Bound by LJ Swallow £1.99
Hunted by LJ Swallow £1.99
Guardians by LJ Swallow £2.28
Chaos by LJ Swallow £1.99
Dirty English by Isla Madden Mills £3.69
Satan's Spawn £2.99
From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata - £3.52
Uncovering You: The Complete First Boxed Set by Scarlett Edwards £0.99
Cursed by Fire by Danielle Annett £2.80
Shift by Karina Espinosa £3.18
Total cost if purchased: £26.41
Total spent on KU: £23.97
Total Saving: £2.44
Was it worth it?
Honestly, I'm not sure.
For one thing, I don't own the books!
Seeing as I have saved so little, I think I'd have preferred to actually own the things I spent my money on...
Plus, I'm going to have to buy a copy of From Lukov With Love for keeps because it is a top fav and I NEED it.
Therefore deducting the money I 'saved' in borrowing From Lukov with Love, I actually made a loss on KU in the first three months.
It really sucks.
Therefore, I'm not sure I should continue with KU...
But I'm going to keep it a bit longer.
Well, I've discovered a few authors I probably wouldn't have read without it and I do think it can be financially better for me in the long run. The 'cost analysis' (such as my basic maths was!) would have been far better if I hadn't practically abandoned KU for a month due to being caught up in review copies and binging books from the TBR pile throughout March...
Plus, I may grumble about not owning the books but with the exception of From Lukov With Love, I doubt I'd read any of the others again anyway!
Considering how many books I have on my kindle that I'm never going to read again, not owning these books is probably doing me favour!
I'll give it another 3 months but if it's still a loss - or borderline - then I'll call it quits.
I may even be in my new house by then!
