Welcome!
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
Now that's explained, it's on to my weekly recap!
Oh wow, this week has been interesting!
My sleepy little cathedral city has been besieged by the worlds media over the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter with some funky nerve agent.
This has meant that I have avoided town like the plague for the past week and will continue to do so until they stop randomly cordoning off areas due to contamination.
😟
Scary shit aside, the walk way between the restaurant they've cordoned off - Zizzi's - and the area where the victims were found unconscious - the Maltings - contains the library!
Not cool enemy agents.
Not cool.
This week also saw us welcome a new fluff ball to the family.
Meet Athena.
Isn't she gorgeous? 😻
After we lost Freya at Christmas, we knew we'd get another kitty but I honestly wasn't expecting it to be this soon. However, we saw the ad for her litter, saw her picture, met her and we just knew she was ours.
She's settling in really well and our other cat - Dora - is slowly accepting that she's got company again.
It's funny really, Dora had never been a solo kitty a single day in her life up until we lost Freya, and seemed lost on her own, but now that she has company again she's being a grumple! 🙄
This coming week is all about the little dude turning seven.
Seven.
I cannot believe he's seven!
Where the heck does the time go?
We're not doing a party this year, we're taking him and a friend off to Legoland for the day so fingers crossed the weather is good!
Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My little dude wanted to read this after watching the movie, so naturally, I had to read it too with the difference being I read the book and he's listening to the audiobook.
The Lightning Thief is an awesome book and a great introduction to mythology and the Greek Gods.
I highly recommend it.
Review to follow.
Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
After finishing The Lightning Thief - which I read in a day - I jumped straight onto book 2 and it too was awesome.
I found myself laughing out loud throughout.
Review to follow.
None!
I'm polishing my halo right now, for I'm totally sticking to my book buying embargo and my Take Control reading challenge.
I DID, however, get given a couple of ARCs after being accepted onto several blog tours, and I got a couple of additional review books via netgalley, so maybe I need to try harder on taking control of the TBR...
In my defence though, I never actually expected to be accepted for everything!
No matter... I'm excited to read them all so I'm sure it'll be fine.
😆
I've just finished a binge watch of Vikings and I LOVED it.
I'm caught up to the end of S4 and I deliberately didn't watch S5 Pt.1 because I know it'll end on a cliffhanger that would kill me so I'm waiting on all of S5 being available before I return to it.
I've also been watching The Vampire Diaries since December.
It's one of those shows that I used to watch years ago but got bored of around S4. I decided, when it ended, that I'd finish it off but I needed to go back to the very beginning in order to do that as I couldn't remember lots of it.
😐
So far, I'm half way through S5 and while I loved S1 & S2, S3 & S4 were blah and S5 has been mostly painful, although the second half is a big improvement on the first!
I'm determined to see it through though.
One episode at a time, in the background, while I do things like work on the blog.
This week I read 2 books bring my total of books read for this challenge to 5 which I'm really pleased with so far!
Shame the TBR has hundreds of books left to go...
This week, I added 0 books to this challenge so my total stands at 3 (Dark Romance).
I still haven't added my maiden title to this challenge. It's shocking. I know. I hang my head in shame.

Last week, I was 6 books behind schedule.
This week, I'm only 3.
I need to keep up the good readin'!
This week, I'll be taking part in the release blitz for February in Atlantis by Alyssa Day, the release blitz for Captive by Jenny Lynn.
I'll be continuing to read the Percy Jackson series of books and I'm really hoping to catch up with reviews! I'm falling so behind.
Finally, Lucky is Reading, March, giveaway ends on the 15th so be sure to enter, if you haven't already.
Have a good week, folks!
SQUEEE! Athena is so precious! I hope Dora is adjusting. Happy birthday to your son. I have never been to Legoland, but it looks like so much fun. The closest I have gotten is the Lego sculptures in Downtown Disney, which are epic. Ooooh! You have Prom to Remember. I really want that book. Sandy Hall cracks me up. Hope you love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteYep, I've definitely seen the Russian spy story in the news. Crazy that happened in your town! I imagine it's been a madhouse. But the library being off-limits? Well now they've gone too far! :) Happy birthday to the little one! Hope the weather is good for LegoLand. And I hope you enjoy the new books! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanya!
DeleteAdorable little kitty. Did you give her a name? I am not sure that I seen it. I hope you have a marvelous week or reading.
ReplyDeleteMary #SundayRoundup #9
Hi Mary, yes her name is Athena :)
DeleteAw Athena looks adorable! Such a cute kitty... and cool name too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard the Percy Jackson books are awesome, my daughter is reading them now.
That's crazy about the nerve poisoning thing. Be safe!!
I still need to watch Vikings, I've heard it's so good but I don't think Netflix has it. I need to check.
In the UK, Vikings is available on Amazon Prime video and it's well worth a watch. :) Have a good week, Greg!
DeleteAww Athena looks so cute! <3
ReplyDeleteI've tried watching Vampire Diaries on several occasions but the show just gets so random that it's weird and then I also can't remember the latest plot twist if I don't watch it for a while...
I have the same problem. I'm finding the trick is to watch 2 or 3 episodes back to back on a fairly regular basis. :)
DeleteOh my gosh Athena is adorable and her name is awesome! That poisoning story was nuts, but to block the library-thats terrible. Hopefully they get it all squared away so you can get back to books.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reads!
Library is now accessible! The independent businesses in that area are suffering terribly though so it's still pretty grim. :(
DeleteLegoland sounds like it will be fun. Athena is adorable. I've listened to some of the Percy Jackson books and watched the first movie. Hopefully, you can get to the library soon once all this stuff gets sorted out. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI've just finished the first 5 and I LOVED them!
DeleteI don't mind the movies but they're very different from (and nowhere near as good as) the books.
So sorry that you find all that vile poisoning going on in your beautiful, ancient home town... It still seems like the sort of thing you see in a spy film. Hope the library soon becomes available again! Have a MUCH better week and I hope your cat soon accepts the dear little kitten:). Thank you for popping in.
ReplyDeleteThanks, the library is back open but many areas are still cordoned off. :(
DeleteI've been following the story and didn't realize you lived herby. That i crazy stuff right out of spy novels.
ReplyDeleteRight?! It's just getting weirder as time goes on too.
DeleteThat is an interesting week! Athena is adorable. Congrats!! You got A Prom to Remember. So excited for that one when it comes out. Happy reading and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to start reading it! Was determined to finish my Percy Jacksons first though.
DeleteOMG your story is just like ours. We lost our baby of 15 years in December, we never meant to get anything else until September of this year, however, we found two siblings that totally needed us and I never thought we would get two kittens. They are perfect for our family and we are so happy. Enjoy that little floof, she is adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your little dude! I hope you enjoy Legoland!
Have a great week! Happy Reading! :)
Thank you!
DeleteI'd forgotten how tiny kittens are... And how cheeky! lol Enjoy them both. :)
Such a cute kitten! Hope Dora settles in with her. That's pretty scary to live so close to all the craziness with the Russian spy! Wow! Hope you get access to the library again soon! :)
ReplyDeleteLibrary is now good. Craziness continues. :(
DeleteYou won’t believe how fast your little dude will grow up. (I hate to tell you this.) But I do so to help you enjoy each moment!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, fellow!
Thank you. :)
DeleteOh my. I've been watching that on the news. Yes, definitely avoid venturing out. Looks like you have some good books to read until things calm down again. And Athena is precious!
ReplyDeleteThanks, she's so mischievous and very sweet. :)
DeleteOh no! I don't blame you at all for avoiding town. I hope things quiet down again soon! Enjoy all your new reads!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracy!
DeleteI'm going to be reading The Lightning Thief for my reading challenge this week too.
ReplyDeleteOh my god Athena is absolutely adorable.
That's crazy what happened where you live, hopefully it gets better soon, the library is definitely not somewhere I want to avoid.
Here's our weekly wrap up: http://jennreneeread.blogspot.com/2018/03/weekly-wrap-up-march-4th-march-10th.html
OMG, the entire series was so good! I'm SO tired today as I binge read the final one last night... Worth it, though. Totally worth it.
DeleteWill start the Heroes of Olympus series soon, I think.
Enjoy book 1!
That furball is adorable. Your other cat will get used to her, just takes a while.
ReplyDeleteOMG I wasn't able to resist reviewing Chaser either. *fist bump* Enjoy your books!
Chaser is tomorrow's read. Can't wait!
DeleteHave a great week!
Congrats on your new family member. Athena is gorgeous! She's just so fluffy! I wish my cat would allow me to get another one.
ReplyDeleteThanks, she's very sweet. :)
DeleteShame about your cat not allowing another. :(
Oh, I heard about that on the news! :o I hope you'll get access to your library again soon!
ReplyDeleteYour new cat is sooooo cute!
I still need to read the Percy Jackson series, I'm so behind on all the hype.
Have a wonderful week and happy reading!
I really recommend them, they've been so much fun!
DeleteWhat a sweetie! She's adorable.
ReplyDeleteAnd oh my gosh. I've been avoiding the internet the last few days and totally missed that. How crazy!
It's been nuts! Not settling down much either, but I can now get into the library.
DeleteOmg! You live in Russian spy town! Dang those Russians, going around poisoning their spies that got away
ReplyDeleteI do! :)
DeleteIt's been mad but hopefully it starts to calm down soon...
I was just reading about the Russian spy. You're right, that is scary shit!
ReplyDeleteAwww, Athena is just precious and that's great that she's already fitting in with your other kitty.
I love those Percy Jackson books too. I've read a couple of them with my son and we need to get busy on the rest of them. Such fun reads.
I just finished them and loved them all! Totally recommend. They get better as they go along. :)
DeleteWill be starting the follow-on series, Heroes of Olympus, soon. :)
How dare they block off the path to the library! So rude! But also your cats are adorable and very fluffy. :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Thankfully, it's open again which is more than can be said for a lot of places like one of my favourite pubs! :(
DeleteOh no! It's better to be safe though, I'm glad you're okay.
ReplyDeleteAthena is adorable! Congrats on the new kitten. :)
Hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week! ~Aleen
Thank you!
DeleteGAH!! Althea is such a little furbaby!! And Dora is such a great sport, lol... And yeah your story about the cordoning off was pretty scary, please stay safe!! And YES to audiobooks with the little one... I actually love that idea (why haven't I thought of it already?!) <3
ReplyDeleteI love that he listens to them. They're the perfect carrot to make him go to bed in a timely fashion with no drama. ;)
DeleteThat cat is a real cutie. Thanks for sharing that picture with us. I am behind my reading challenge for the TakeControlTBR but the months has still some days left, right? Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Vi @Inkvotary
Heck yeah! A lot of reading can be done in a few weeks. Good luck!
DeleteAww, Athena is absolutely adorable! Congratulations on a new kitten. :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully everything eventually dies down for you, Nicci! :)
Sophia @ Bookwyrming Thoughts
Thank you, Sophia!
DeleteOMG - I haven't read the news all that much but I did see about that attack. So scary.
ReplyDeleteHello new little ball of fur! Does she have a name?
Karen @ For What It's Worth
Yep, took us a few days but we settled on Athena.
DeleteWe have a mythological / Gods naming system for the furry babies in this house. (Dora = Pandora) :)
Athena is so cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary!
DeleteThat sounds pretty scary indeed. I hope the media focus passes quickly.
ReplyDeleteYour new kitten is adorable! I hope your other cat quickly get's fully used to the new kitten. Have a great week!
Thanks Lola. The kitties are settling nicely. :)
DeleteAwe, Athena is just adorable! Glad she is settling in with Dora too. It sounds like your sleepy city has a lot of some dangerously scary things going n right now. Stay safe. Hope you have a great week and enjoy the new books you were sent too.
