Cover Reveal: The Next Generation by S.C. Stephens

Hey guys!

Check out the cover for S.C. Stephens' up coming novel, The Next Generation, releasing on September 28th!

Blurb:

Fitting in can be hard for anyone. But for Julian and Nika Adams, it’s especially challenging. Born as partial vampires, a rare offshoot of pureblood vampires, the twins have had to deceive people their entire lives—distancing themselves from their peers.

Nika desperately wants a hero, a soulmate, someone she can trust with every fibre of her soul—someone as amazing as her father. The boys at her high school aren’t impressing, but luckily for Nika, Hunter Evans has moved into the neighborhood.

Julian desperately wishes he could sever the empathic bond he has with his sister. While it was fun to experience each other’s emotions when they were kids, now that Julian finds himself pining for a girl he can’t have, sharing his feelings is the last thing he wants to do.

It's available for pre-order now:

 Amazon Kobo

Blog Tour: The Secret by Christie Ridgway

Hey folks!
Today I'm taking part in the blog tour for Christie Ridgway's new release, The Secret!

The Secret is a contemporary romance novel and is available now!

Read on for my review and to enter the author's giveaway celebrating the release.

About The Book

Being butler to a widower and single father is a dream job in more ways than one for Charlotte “Charlie” Emerson. She helps keep businessman Ethan Archer’s household running without a hitch and enjoys every minute she has with his six-year-old son, Wells. But as time passes, the situation feels alarmingly intimate and when her heart starts beating faster each time Ethan steps through the door, Charlie must exert rigid control over her feelings.
With her secret, falling in love would be all kinds of bad…
Ethan Archer values the woman who keeps his life in order and cares so much for his motherless boy. He and Charlie act in harmony with each other and it’s not hard to picture them as a little family…in fact, it’s so easy, one reckless night he proposes a marriage of convenience.
What will he do if Charlie says yes? And worse, what if she tells him no?

What I Liked:
The book was easy to read, enjoyable and sexy.
It wasn't angsty or full of drama, it was straightforward and to the point.
Ethan and Charlie had a nice chemistry, Wells was adorable, and I really liked the single dad angle.

What I Didn't Like:
I guessed the secret long before it was revealed. I don't know why, as I don't think it was particularly obvious, but something just clicked in my head and had me going 'I bet', and I was right, which meant the reveal had no emotional impact on me beyond a self-satisfied 'ah-ha!'

I also found the whole prim and proper butler thing weird and over played.

Other Thoughts:
Christie Ridgway books have gotten a lot dirtier than I remember! To be fair, it's been seven or eight years since I last read one, and they used to have their steamy moments, but damn! This one was so much more than those I read before.
Good times. 🙂

Release Blitz: Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward

Check it out! A new release from Penelope Ward!
How excited am I about this book?
A LOT!
Can't wait to read it.
😊

Man, I love this cover!

Blurb:

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.

Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.

I didn’t think he’d call me back.

I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.

Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.

Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.

Hot coffee is a regular fixture in Hailey Warren’s life. Hot guys? Not so much.
Her grueling shifts at a cafe in the heart of the city’s business sector are rarely punctuated by anything special, so when the gorgeous heir to the security company next door strides into Hailey’s life, it feels like punctuation with a capital P (or D, depending on your preferred terminology).
Jordan Knox is enough to send her heart racing faster than a triple shot of espresso, and when the attraction proves to be mutual, no hidden corners or empty offices are safe from their game of cat and mouse.
But when she’s ready to drop the pretenses, Jordan continues to hold back, and Hailey realizes he’s been hiding secrets that could make whatever’s brewing between them boil over and burn.
‘Latte Girl’ is a full length, standalone novel, and the debut title from author Katia Rose.

Excerpt:

His body is turned towards me, one arm resting along the top of the couch. I think about how easy it would be to slide closer, to let him wrap his arm around my shoulders and put my head on his chest. My hands almost twitch at the thought of creeping up under his shirt again and feeling the smooth ridges of his stomach, the heat coming off his skin.
“Just you and all your millions of dollars,” I say, trying to get the conversation back on track.
“We’re not that rich,” protests Jordan.
I give him a skeptical look.
“Okay, we’re rich,” he concedes, “but are you really telling me that growing up in a two million dollar house would be worth growing up without a sister?”
 “Point taken,” I admit.
But growing up in a house where I could actually use a vibrator without my entire family hearing would have been nice, I add to myself.
Jordan is staring at me like I’ve announced I have a third nipple and I realize with horror that I just spoke my thoughts out loud.
About The Author:
Katia Rose is not much of a Pina Colada person, but she does like getting caught in the rain. She prefers her romance served steamy with a side of smart, and is a sucker for quirky characters. Review: Blade by Alexandra Ivy and Lauren Wright

About The Book
Sexy Suit, Blade was held captive and abused for decades. Benson Enterprises was desperate to use his superior blood to create super soldiers. But when he’s finally rescued, he can’t return to the Wildlands with the other prisoners. Not without the female he was forced to watch being impregnated. The female who has gone missing.

Beautiful and broken, Valli just wants to run away and never look back. But with the shocking news of her pregnancy fresh in her mind, she wonders if that’s even possible. Told by her captors that one of the caged animals assaulted her, she knows she must do everything in her power to keep her unborn child safe. But when a glorious male tracks her down and claims her and her baby as his own, will she have the strength to walk away?

(Review copy granted by InkSlinger PR as part of a publicity tour for the book.)

Format
ebook

Story Length
Novella

POV
Third Person.

Triggers?
Possibly.
The female main character was impregnated against her will by crazy scientists.

Background Knowledge Required?
No.
The novella is part of a series but I haven't read any of the others and followed this one just fine.

Cliffhanger?
No.

HEA?
No.

Infidelity?
No.

Love-Triangle?
No.

Violence?
Very mild.

What I Liked:
I liked how Blade was determined to find the woman impregnated against her will, with his child, and his determination to protect her from further harm despite having been held captive and abused himself for a long time by humans.

What I Didn't Like:
I know it's a frequent complaint of mine with novellas - and it's really hard to get the balance right - but this felt incredibly rushed.
It was a perfect example of a story with so much promise lacking depth due to the constraints of the word count.

Other Thoughts:
All in all, I enjoyed Blade, it was a great little book for inhaling in a couple of hours and it kept me entertained but sadly I probably won't remember it a year from now.

However, I'd not be opposed to reading other books in this series as the world - what we saw of it anyway! - had potential and the writing was pretty good.

Clear Your Shelf Giveaway!

This month I'm taking part in the Clear Your Shelf giveaway hop!

The post is going up a little late - sorry about that! - because I got trapped in a holiday cottage with the worst wifi connection I've encountered in the last ten years and I couldn't do anything online. (First world problems, I know.)

The prize for this giveaway, in keeping with the spirit of the hop, is 2 books from my bookshelf
Yes, that means the books are used because I've read them.
It also means that you don't get to choose the books: They'll be a surprise!
But I give advanced warning, I'm a romance reader. I read any and all kinds of romance and therefore the books will probably be romance.
But maybe not.
If you really aren't a romance reader I do have other kinds of books that I've read and would happily pass on (crime, horror, historical etc.).

Entry is via the rafflecopter.
Open internationally.

Good luck!

Excerpt Reveal: The Secret by Christie Ridgway

Hey all!
Today I have the excerpt from The Secret by Christie Ridgeway to share with you!
Check it out! The book releases on August 15th.

Blurb:

What will he do if Charlie says yes? And worse, what if she tells him no?

Exclusive Excerpt:

Charlie returned to the kitchen to deal with the dishes and restore the pots and pans to their proper place. She liked tidiness and order in all things—emotions included. Emmaline sometimes accused her of capping off her feelings, and Charlie didn’t disagree. Or find anything wrong with it.
“In my book,” she murmured to herself now, “compartmentalizing isn’t a sin.”
“What’s not a sin?” a masculine voice questioned.
Charlie whirled around, instant heat crawling up her throat and cheeks. “Um, hi, Ethan.” Her boss had been on a business trip for the past couple of weeks. Why hadn’t she taken the time to change into something other than cropped leggings and a matching T-shirt? When was the last time she’d brushed her hair?
He smiled, softening the lines of his lean and handsome face. At their first meeting, he’d claimed to be “on the dark side of thirty-five” but she’d met younger men who didn’t come close to his level of attractiveness.
“Charlotte,” he said now.
She pretended to scowl at him and told herself that she found his use of her full name—he was the only one who ever did use it—irksome. It made her feel too…feminine, and she was supposed to merely be a functional feature in his life. A Charlie.
“Must you?”
His laughter was low, almost intimate. “On occasion, I must.”
Ignoring the traitorous pleasure she felt in his presence, she busied herself with refolding a kitchen towel. “I didn’t hear you come in.”
“You were lost in thought.” A heavy pause. “Something about sinning?”
At the amused and inquisitive tone, she glanced up at him. He looked back, one dark eyebrow winged up and the hint of a smile on his firm lips. A shiver tried working its way down her spine, but she ruthlessly held back the sensation.
“It was nothing,” she said.
“I’m disappointed to hear that.” He laughed again, sounding slightly chagrined. “For a moment I thought one of us was breaking out of our rut.”
