Sunday Post: August Summary

Since I've been awol a lot throughout August, I thought I'd kick start September by joining The Caffinated Book Reviewer's Sunday Post with an August recap!
I'm also jumping into the Stacking The Shelves hop, hosted by Reading Reality and Tyngas Reviews to share some of the pretties I got my hands on this past month.

August was a funny ol' month.
It went incredibly fast, emptied my bank account and didn't leave much time for reading which kinda sucked.
However, I saw my mother in law, brother in law and sister in law (who I haven't seen since we visited them in Ireland last summer) and we hit pretty much every Merlin operated attraction in the UK which was fun.
After that, my mum was down from Scotland for two weeks so there was more catching up and fun day's out there.
I had a combination of leave from work and super long days where I started early to come home early, to do stuff, or went in late and stayed late because of doing stuff. I'm really fortunate to have flexible working conditions that allowed me to spend so much time with family while my son was on summer break from school but it was exhausting juggling everything which meant blog activity has been light  this month. I've mainly focused on my promo commitments like cover reveals, release blitzes and blog tours. While it was fun taking part in these it felt like a lot when I was already time poor and struggling so I think I'll need to be more careful in future with what I sign up for.

Reading Summary:

I really wanted to blitz through a whole load of summery reads but, once again, I mostly indulged in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance for that's what I'm finding addictive at the moment! I'm sure I'll swing back towards 'reality' before long, and I'll catch up, but for now I'm going to keep feeding the beast what it desires.

This month, I read 9 books
As follows:

Tempt The Stars by Karen Chance

Reap the Wind by Karen Chance

Ride the Storm by Karen Chance

I haven't reviewed any of the Karen Chance reads yet but I loved them so much! I've waited... Four years? Yeah, four years, for this story arc to be complete and I refused to read them as they released (every two years or so) because I was tipped off that they ended in cliffhangers more horrendous than the previous one. I decided I'd wait until the arc completed and binge so when Ride the Storm released at the start of the month I was all over them and I can safely say that I made a good call in waiting and that it was so worth it!
Now I can't wait for the third - and I believe final - story arc of this series to be written but such is the life of a bookworm!

Blade (1001 Dark Nights) by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright

Dating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager

The Secret by Christie Ridgway

Latte Girl by Katia Rose

Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews

I haven't written my review for this yet but OMG! Jim and Dali sittin' in a tree. M-A-T-I-N-G! 💗

Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

I haven't written my review for this yet either but holy beejeebers! This book was the business! Major changes in the Kate Daniels world and a fantastic read.

Other Bloggy News

The Clear Your Shelf blog hop winner has been announced - check out the widget - and I am holding another giveaway for September: Book of Choice Giveaway Hop.

I took part in the Bout of Books 20 read-a-thon which looked like a loads of fun but sadly, with my crazy busy month, was an epic fail on my part.

August was a great month for 99p book sales, so I stacked my shelves gooood. I also got a couple of ARCs and picked up a couple of books from the library when I took my son in.

September is looking quieter on the promotional stuff, and on the home front, for hopefully I'll get loads of reading done!

Please feel free to leave a comment to your end of month posts or blog pages.

  1. Being busy with family is a great way to be busy, though, right? I love spending time with my mom, or with my sister, or both!
I love the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance, and am very eager for the next book to be released.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  4. I am glad you had a nice August, visiting with family. I know how exhausting being pulled in more than one direction can be. You can't go wrong with urban fantasy. I have had historical fiction on the brain as of late, but am ready for some magic in my reading, I think. Karen Chance is an author I haven't yet read, but have been wanting to. I am glad you enjoy her books! I love anything by Ilona Andrews. I need to get back to their books. It's been too long . . . I'm so behind!

I hope you have a wonderful week, Nicola!

It's been a while since I've sunk into a good historical... Definitely something I need to consider the next time I'm in a reading funk and looking for something different.

    1. Yeay! I was really intrigued but still on the fence after the first book but book two hit me in a BIG way and I stormed through the books after that, completely in love.
      Enjoy!

  12. Sounds like a great month! I like it when a series is all released and you can binge 'em all at once. I've heard great things about the Ilona Andrews books too...

    1. They're really really good. I'm just annoyed with myself that I binged them all before the release of the final book in May! My restraint snapped and I couldn't hold off anymore...

  13. I had to cut back on promotional posts because they were taking so much of my time and just weren't fun anymore. I only pick ones that I absolutely LOVE anymore :) You might be going in that direction ;)

So... I have Ride The Storm sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read it. I got it a while ago but I'm still bitter about how long it's been taking to rescue Pritkin. He's the MAN!! Mircea can take a leap off a bridge and I'm mad that she still gives him so much attention... grrrr... Yeah, I'm slightly bent on this series. So many years invested!!! Guess I'll have to buck up and read it, huh?? Please tell me they resolve Pritkin, tho!!!!

    1. If you're a Pritkin fan I think you'll be happy by the end of this story arc... I LOVE Pritkin and was very happy but I must admit I'm still worried for the next arc. Mircea, even when I think Cassie is seeing sense, has a horrible habit of still being around!

    1. Definitely recommend Ilona Andrews. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Kate Daniels but they gripped me in a big way from book 2. Can't wait to start on some of their other series.

  19. Work has gotten in the way of my reading time too, so I understand how you feel. But it sounds like you had a great time with your family. I love paranormal romance but because of my review schedule I haven't read one in a while. I'll have to change that for September. I hope you have a great week and enjoy all your new books!

  21. Tour post seem easy but they can be pretty time consuming. I have one more to do myself then I'm done unless it's a book I really LOVE.

Sounds like you had a fun month though.

You read lots of great books! Congrats on getting so much reading done.
